Visual art design played a huge role in the United Farm Workers (UFW) labor union for the visualization of the farmworkers movement. That art has created a sense of unity among the Mexican community that still resonates until this day since farm workers are still fighting for their essential workers rights.

Really inspiring and cultural. Really reminds of the movie Flaming Hot. You should check it out on Hulu or Disney Plus. Perhaps try to include certain individuals or figures in the time period you are talking about?
Hi Esmeralda, I liked that you picked a topic of design for social good. You had a great exploration of the posters and I really enjoyed the one with the grapes spilling blood instead of juice. It reminds us of how visual communication is able to change the status quo of the world. Great presentation!
Hello Esmeralda, your Presentation was really in depth and thought out. I could tell this topic was really important to you. I really enjoyed the visuals you included throughout your project, it really shows the social aspects of what Labor workers fought for, to spread awareness and also spread information for inspiration to fight for what’s right. Your Presentation was excellent and well informative.
Hey Esmeralda,
It was great to see your project as a West Coast counterpart to things I just learned regarding the Young Lords locally (and how many became CUNY professors!) and the posters and newspapers they made.
Your presentation showed the beautiful graphics of the 1972 grape and lettuce boycotts I grew up hearing about and participating in as a child, and the newpaper design of El Malcriado from 1970.
I didn’t know about the growers making competitive fake unions, nor about the beautiful UFW logo’s brief ubiquity.
Civil rights and worker’s rights are a continuing struggle. The “sun raid” graphic of 2008, genius.
I personally enjoyed and learned from your presentation, not only the because of the topic you chose but I literally see where I could have improved my presentation. You were very detailed on the historical aspects transitioned to present time. You had great visuals with interpretations. You’ve implemented what we’ve thought in class in your presentation. Your choice in design and how it affects farmers’ life is very intriguing.
