I really enjoyed learning about Afrofuturism and how it relates to design and aesthetics. Science fiction is one of my favorite personal genres in books and movies but Iâve never thought to bring it into my design work. Last semester I was tasked to create a brand identity for a Space Hotel including logos, stationary, and print material that I think tie into the science fiction aspect of Afrofuturism well. Sun raâs themes of space travel and futuristic mythology relate heavily to the solar eclipse theme I designed for the Space Hotel. The amorphous shapes are alien-like and the bold colors and forms are frequently used in Afrofuturism. I can imagine if this space hotel truly came into fruition what kind of Afrofuturistic jazz from musicians would be playing.
