Discussion 8:Digital Inking_Nyle Davis

Tomer Hanuka first started by uploading a traditional sketch into Photoshop and using it as his background. After an initial trace with black ink, he began his layer work to flesh out the sketch and to give it more detail. Once the inking process was complete, he began the color and shade work(probably my personal favorite part of the process, as I think it gives a sketch more character). While layering is still a small challenge for me, watching this video showed that by slowly constructing layers of ink, paint and shade, you can create something even more captivating than a binary sketch.

Discussion 2_Design Packaging_Nyle Davis

The design packaging that I can connect the most to would probably be Kellogg’s Tony the Tiger on the Frosted Flakes cereal box. Aside from the fact that I still love Frosted Flakes to this day, and along with having a catch phrase, there was also something about the simplicity of the art of Tony the Tiger that I was drawn to. Also the difference between his and most of the other cereal boxes was the contrast in colors(example, brown characters like Count Cholocula and Sonny the Coco bird, etc. were on brown boxes, Buzzy Bee was a golden bee on a golden Honey Nut Cherrios box, etc…Tony was a bright orange on a deep blue box)

Discussion Week 6

The artist of this illustration is Logan Sylve, @LilBlackGoat on Instagram. I love his work, it gives off a Jean Michel Basquiat feeling and he is one of my favorite artists. In this piece, Sylve uses a variety of blues. From light to dark, this piece uses a monotone palette and I believe that that enhances the piece. The color blue can have multiple meanings in art and in this work, I believe that the blue represents sadness. More so, it’s an indication of the character’s feelings. I feel as if the character is overwhelmed and too in their head, they need an escape. If this piece was done with full color, it wouldn’t truly express the character’s emotions.
