Refined Ink with value pieces. This is with and without template.

For this sketchbook assignment, I chose to focus on two different animals with completely opposite textures. The first drawing is of my young cat Mia. Mia is full of fur and drawing hair is a challenging texture to draw and ink. Mia also has patterns on her fur, so adding that to the drawing was challenging. My second piece is a drawing of an octopus leg. While I do not own an octopus, google has many images to show the texture and ruggedness of the octopus leg. This took longer than drawing my cat because the texture is more complicated. However, it was a challenging and rewarding drawing to accomplish.
For this sketchbook assignment, the first page of my sketchbook, I created two rows where I practiced creating my own line work and my own shapes for my composition. The first row I was experimenting, but my second row I leaned more towards having my lines symmetrical. After, I drew the sun in the sky, but used my abstract linework to make the sun more interesting and have texture. The background contains worms rising from the ground as though it is morning when the sun first rises. My second composition is more imaginary as I drew the stems rising from the ground with rocks surrounding them on the floor. I also made the clouds in the sky more wavy and dark. I tried to not make the clouds give the illusion of night time by having the background white.
