In the first image, you can see the difference in weight with each stroke. I used different sized micron pens including; 03, 05, 12, PN, BR, etc. Using the same pen, I controlled the weights by the amount of pressure I applied. For my two drawings, I drew a fish and Number 2 from Kid’s Next Door. I pressed down harder in certain parts of the drawings, usually where a down stroke was applied, to give the drawings more depth.

This piece was created by one of my first inspirations of digital art, Mcflyy (@mcflyy on Instagram). I believe he sketched it out using a Wacom tablet and then went on to outline, shade, and color on some digital software like photoshop or procreate. Mcflyy uses a few different compositional techniques throughout this piece. He effectively uses negative space, balance, and movement. There is a lot of detail in the character itself so using a lot of black to fill the negative space helps the viewer by allowing space for the eye to rest amidst all of the detail. The character is symmetrical to the other elements and his hair, parts of his clothing, and the petals help illustrate movement within. In my own work, I struggle often with creating backgrounds. The use of movement with the petals greatly helps even though it isn’t much. Small details like that can and will definitely help to improve my work.
