The story of the ugly duckling is one of many we heard growing up. The short story entails a plain-looking little bird born in a barnyard. The ugly duck runs away from his family because he doesn’t fit in with the other birds and animals on the farm. His brothers and sisters tease him for being ugly so he runs off to live with a flock of wild ducks and geese until hunters shoot down the flock.
The Ugly Duckling first flees from a farmer because he’s too young and can’t fly. When winter sets in, a farmer rescues him, but the farmer’s children and other animals frighten him. He hides in a cave until springtime when a flock of swans comes to his hiding place.
When the Ugly Duckling first meets the swans, he doesn’t quite know what to make of them. When he looks at his reflection in the lake, he sees that he’s grown up and become a beautiful swan himself. He spreads his wings and joins them, finally having found a family who accepts him.
In my version of the ugly duckling I wanted to twist it where the duck in fact is not ugly but a colorless duck that through the same hardship he seeks to find a pond that is heard to be guarded by mother nature. The duckling travels far and hard through the woods and becomes exhausted and dirty. Once the duckling reaches the pond he asked mother nature why he is different. She said that you are more special than u think. He pickles him up and lays him in the water and he becomes clean and has the most vibrant of rainbow colors on him. The duck ends up staying with mother nature because he finally found his new home.
