āThe magazine that I chose for Project#2 is THRASHER magazine. This is a skateboard magazine and skate brand. My partner gets a regular subscription to this magazine, so this article is within their latest printed mag issue #497 December 2021. The article I chose within this issue is called āWild Thingsā written by Madars Apse. This article starts off with a question for the reader to mull over, āWhat do you do when life becomes too much to handle?ā I think this is a bold statement that many of us have dealt with in our various paths on this place we call Earth.
Skaters to me have always been a symbol of rebellion, a bunch of kids who go against the grain and lavish in taking risks, like falling into a deep bowl or jumping with a wooden board off of the edge of a concrete structure, no helmet no knee pads. I guess, before reading this article I never thought about the emotional endeavors these young kids face just like any of us, the why behind their rebellion the motivation that thrills them into landing such dare-devilesque tricks. āWild Thingsā inspired me to go venture out into the world, go to far away never before heard of places, off the map, and create my own story, to feel the crisp of clean air in my lungs, and lavish in the adventureāeven if it may seem far off at first. The skater in this article, is also the author, who went with a few of his skate buddies to Finland and remote areas of France to capture never before seen shots and video of tricks like the 50-50 on old architecture and in spots with magnificent views. I am inspired to use this article because I like the idea of getting out of oneās comfort zone, and taking a leap of faith, which in this case almost seems literal being that skaters take many hard leaps with their little wooden boards below their feet. I also got very vivid imagery in my head while reading the skater/author Apseās writing style and how he navigated through the process of skating foreign lands.
