I’m going to write about a particular day, a day that changed my life pretty much forever. I wake up around 5 am to get dressed, have some breakfast and wait a couple of minutes for my cab. Once it arrived, I pretty much had to say goodbye to everyone who raised me, my grandparents, my aunt, and my mother, this is because I was moving to New York City to live with my dad. It was a choice I was against. I didn’t want to move, I wanted to stay in DR. I even beg my mom with tears to not let me go. I love my dad dearly but moving to a whole other country was just too much for me but with me being 6 I didn’t have a choice but to go.
We get to Las Americas DR’s international airport and I am seeing all these planes I feel like a reason I want to become a pilot is because of this experience. Seeing planes; something I have never seen before and being in awe, I feel like that moment I realized I wanted to become a pilot. After flying for around 3 hours, I landed at JFK as soon as I stepped out pretty much all my senses were overloaded, I was hearing words are couldn’t understand, and lights that made my eyes hurt. I was really overwhelmed especially coming from DR where that was everything, it was a very sudden change of pace.
I am now 21 years old and trying to get my private pilot license and attending college as well. I feel like my mom made a sacrifice letting her only child move so far away from her but I’m also really thankful to my father for letting giving my mom inspiration to let me move in with him, coming here as giving me a lot of opportunities and I know it sounds cliché but it is true. People that I have met, memories I have made probably would have never happened if I stayed in DR
