Even though English isn’t my first language, I don’t have the habit of looking up words in the dictionary. I guess that comes from the fact that I learned English primarily by watching TV and listening to American/European music. I always try to understand a certain sentence by getting the overall meaning of it, but I know that can be tricky and misleading. This exercise of looking up the meaning of certain words opened up my eyes to the fact that, since I’m able to understand most words in everyday-English, I should devote some time into expanding my vocabulary.

This glossary assignment was a very good idea because not only it improved our vocabulary but it helped us understand the reading more clearly. The assignment also put me in a habit to define every word that I don’t know the meaning to. Defining all these words didn’t help me understand all the passages, becasue some passages had easy words, but it definitly helped me with the harder passages.

writing a glossary actually helped me to understand the readings threw out this semester. the more you understand a specific word you don’t know the more clear the story is. i will keep on writing a glossary to add more into my vocabulary and have the capacity to analysis the text faster and easier than before.

I thought that the glossary entry’s can definitely help someone if they study and memorize the word. If you just write the glossary entry to write it then nothing is going to happen for you. You will not really gain anything from it. Overall, it was a bit annoying to write, but it is helpful if you actually remember the words and use them in the future.

The words Ive chosen are the words I think relates more to each story and also I didn’t know the meaning for most of them. After defining these words is helped me better understand the text. I also came across some of these words in my other classes.

This is not the first time I was assigned a vocabulary assignment throughout a course I honestly believe that this is a great way to expand my vocabulary  and understand the reading better. This assignment was interesting to me because I will always assume the definition of the word  I don’t know  and sometimes I am right and other I am not and its great to read the true definition . Its a great opportunity to comprehend the stories that we have read in this course.

I didn’t mind the glossary assignment r for this semester. I feel that I was enlightened by knowing the true definition of these words. Understanding what one specific word means can help to create a better understanding of the entire passage . though it takes a few minutes to loom up the definition of a specific word, when you are able to continue reading  the text is all of  a sudden that much more interesting.

Glossary Write-up

This glossary assignment was a great way for me to actually try to understand the text better. normally, I would just use context clues to try to figure out a word that I didn’t understand. By doing this assignment, I learned words that i didn’t know before, and discovered more definitions about words that I already had prior knowledge on. This effected the way I read the passage. I took time to appreciate the word play the authors used to send a message. For example, Woolf used the word ‘roused’ to describe the way the girl woke from her sleep in Professions For Women”. She could’ve just said the girl woke up, but Woolf wanted to relay the message that the girl’s ideas woke her from her sleep, and she was trying to avoid the subject of her thoughts by sleeping. Without using ‘roused’ the reader wouldn’t get a clear idea of what the author was saying.
