Raster Vs. Vector and Image Resolution

We will begin by getting to know each other. The professor and each student will be given the opportunity to introduce themselves and share interests and backgrounds. We will review Class Syllabus and expectations for students. We will have a Question & Answer period.

Today, we will discuss the characteristics of Raster and Vector Files. The best use and best practices associated with them will also be discussed. File Formats, File Naming Conventions, and File Extensions will also be reviewed. We will begin to familiarize ourselves with Image Resolution.

Lab

Lab assignments are done during class time. This week we will review examples of Vector and Raster Files.  We will also explore the Adobe Illustrator workspace and tools.

Homework Due Next Class 

All work should be submitted by 11:30 pm the day before class.

  • Read Raster vs. Vector in the Resources and make yourself familiar with the differences of each element. Also, read File Formats and Understanding Resolution notes to familiarize yourself with them. Be ready to explain discuss the differences for the next week’s class.
