Fall 2017 - Professor Kate Poirier

Category: HW#1: Introduce yourself

Introducing Zaniya Sample-Anderson

My name is Zaniya Sample-Anderson. I am from Ā Virginia.

I speak English and Ā fluent in Spanish.

I became interested in math education when I started tutoring as a part of a volunteer program with young girls. I was told that it was a rare field for women and people of color to dominate which made me want to do it even more.

My favorite type of math is Calculus. My least favorite is geometry which I think is mostly due to the fact that I disliked my high school geometry teacher and his method of teaching.

Once I graduate from City Tech, I plan to start teaching math and African-American history at the high school level.

My hobbies are going to museums, watching cooking shows and of course Jeopardy!

Welcome and Homework #1 ā€“ due Tuesday, September 5

Welcome to MEDU 2010! This OpenLab site is your home base for the course. All course information, assignments, deadlines will be posted here. Youā€™ll also use this site for class discussion and to submit your own work. Take a look around and check back regularly.

Your first assignment is to submit an OpenLab post introducingĀ yourself to the class. Here are the details:

  1. Sign up for anĀ OpenLabĀ account (if you donā€™t have one already; requires a CityTech email address) and add yourself to this course.
  2. From any page on the course site, click the ā€œ+ā€ symbol at the top of the screen to begin a new post.
  3. Title your post: ā€œIntroducing [your first name] [your last name]ā€
  4. In the body of yourĀ post, briefly tell us anything youā€™d likeĀ us to know about you! Some suggestions areā€¦
    • Where did you grow up? What languages do you speak?
    • How or when did you become interested in math/math education?
    • What are your most and least favorite math topics?
    • What type of technology have you used in class before? What type of technology are you interested in learning about in this class?
    • What do you hope to do after you graduate from CityTech; short-term goals, long-term goals, whateverā€¦
    • Other cool interests/hobbies you have
  5. Before you submit your post, select theĀ HW#1: Introduce yourselfĀ category from the right-hand side of the screen.
  6. Read and comment on your classmatesā€™ posts. (Note: the administrator will have to approve your comments, so donā€™t be surprised if they donā€™t appear right away.)
  7. If thereā€™s anything I should know about you, but you donā€™t want the whole class to know it (for example, if you have permission toĀ receiveĀ accommodations during tests) please discuss this with me in person.
  8. Set up your own ePortfolio on the OpenLab. You’ll be posting your projects there over the course of the semester.

Keep your eyes peeledā€¦Iā€™ll submit a post introducing myself too!
