The author has a distinct type of writing which can be overwhelming to understand. I had to read it twice to grasp the information and fully visualize what was going on. My thoughts on this chapter were that Coats could have more clarification when explaining the narrators’ thoughts. I feel like there were some parts where the author was detailed and understand what happened, like when the narrator saw his mom as a ghostly figure. Coats did put a lot of thought into the story, the majority of the chapter explains what the character does. The author mentions where the story took place and made me comprehend that this has a past setting since there was slavery going on. The story is interesting but difficult to understand if you read it quickly. But overall it was definitely a unique writing piece we’ve read.

Office Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM. I’ll be available through Zoom and will send an invitation via email that you should keep all semester. Try to join my meeting at the start of the hour, not at the end—since I may be talking to other students or have another appointment after the hour is up. If those times don’t work with your schedule, we can schedule a different time. This means you’ll have to schedule an appointment in advance. I suggest you have multiple times in mind, since your schedule may not mesh with mine!

I agree I couldn’t grasp everything on the first read. I had to read things over and draw a picture in my head. It was interesting, and I wanted to read more as I went on, but it was difficult to understand in the beginning and took some time.
I agree it was difficult to understand I had to read towards the end to figure it out. I would like to see a continued part so we can know more about the author.
I can definitely agree that it took another reading to fulling understand what was exactly happening. This was certainly on the unique side out of all the passages we’ve read so far.
