ENG 1121

November 30, 2020

Word count: 485

This semester as a writer I have learned that I enjoy writing about topics that represent me and my culture. As a Muslim woman, my religion is often seen as something negative and people seem to exaggerate the truth so I like writing about the truth of it. I feel like as a writer I have finally developed a style of writing that I would like to practice more and become even better at. Overall, this semester helped me find a way of writing that I really enjoy, and with some feedback, I want to do better and write better.  As a reader, I can definitely use more work. I don’t really enjoy proofreading my work which ends up being the reason why I get a bad score. So I definitely need to work more on my proofreading or at least ask a friend for help. Throughout the semester if I’m being honest I don’t think I really improved as a reader because as I previously mentioned I don’t really enjoy proofreading my work but one thing I did enjoy was being able to read my classmates’ papers and assignments and being able to critic them. I liked being the other perspective for their work and share my opinion. I’ll be able to use what I have learned and incorporate it into my other classes throughout the semesters and it’ll really help me navigate through a proper and professional conversation.

I chose Micro Activity #4 because it was one of the first few assignments and it did easily come to me but it was also a bit difficult. We had to choose quotes that stood out to us or the ones that were important and that is something that I had difficulty with. I struggle with pinpointing the main idea of a text because I seem to think that everything is important. The part where I had to respond to the quotes came easily to me because I like to dissect the text that I am reading and interpret it in a few different ways and then choose the best one. For the second Micro Activity, I chose Micro Activity #7 because I see a lot of growth in that piece of writing. In Micro Activity #7 I had to make an outline for Unit 1 and include the main point and the central idea of the speech I was going to write. After a couple of drafts, I was able to gather all the main points on the speech rather than writing the things that weren’t important. I was also able to write the central idea within a few sentences without going overboard and writing a paragraph, which is something I previously struggled with. I choose to include these two Micro Activities in my portfolio because they show how I dissect and plan my writings,
