The discourse community that I think would mostly benefit from my research would be immigrant families. Immigrant families would not know little to none information about the injustices within detention centers. Since the discourse community are minorities, they don’t have the resources to stay informed. The assumptions that they might have about detention centers is that immigrants are given a court hearing right away. Migrants immediate expectation would be to hire a lawyer to provide legal representation for their court hearing. However, migrants are kept in these facilities for long periods of time. They are also not given a court hearing. Besides migrants staying in these detention facilities for more than a month, they are not supplied with basic necessities such as water, food, clothes, etc. Immigrant families would benefit from this information because they probably have friends or family members that have been detained by ICE. Many families are not able to contact their family members. This is why they should be informed about the terrifying conditions. The best method for reaching your community would be through an information brochure because they are easy to distribute to many families and very descriptive. They are short but hold a lot of important information.
