Summary:

This Article focuses on brand new reports that shows hundreds of cases in which deported parents who were taken away from their families cannot be located, 545 immigrant children are missing their parents as of October 21 2020 it goes on to explain how This has been an ongoing issue since trumps 2017 immigration policy, in 2018 about 2,700 migrant children were separated from their families after months of fighting and searching with private law firms and several immigrant advocacy organizations families were tracked down and reunited but in January of 2019 reports confirmed that many more children were separated from their families including under an undisclosed program in 2017 called the ā€œZero toleranceā€ act which The Trump administration directed prosecutors to file criminal charges against those who crossed the border without authorization including parents who were than separated from their children. So what the Author is saying is that Now there are many children without parents that are lost to the government because they were most likely deported back to their home countries without any type of records and they cannot find them to reunite the families those kids were initially placed in shelters or foster homes under the supervision of HHS then they were released to sponsors who are typically relatives or family friend about 362 of the children also cannot be located because the contact information provided by their sponsors is no longer current. Many of the children are believed to be in the United States though some may have returned to their home country since  they were released from federal custody.

Reflection: This is a brand new article Published today 10/21/2020 so that saddens me that during this pandemic the government are still committing this hideous acts of separating children as young as 6 years old from their families causing them long term trauma, hundreds of these families have endured years of separation, no matter what that shouldnā€™t be an option why would you separate families what good does that do it just causes damage as proven in the article separating families did nothing but cause more problems for the government and the families 545 children are lost in foster homes, with sponsor who are relatives and friends of the families but let’s be honest no one knows the well being of these kids and the trauma and fear they are experiencing not being with their parents who are lost and cannot be tracked and found to be reunited.

Quotation:Ā  ā€œWhen H.H.S. case workers began their efforts to track down the families of children they encountered, as is customary for any child in federal custody, they discovered that the immigration authorities had not, in many cases, kept record of who each child’s parents were or how to reach them.ā€

Summary:

Summary: Ice has been abusing and neglecting immigrants being held at detention centers, ā€œ abolish iceā€ a common phrase heard every time a new abuse is reported, recently a whistleblower filed a complaint about a gynecologist in Georgia performing hysterectomies on migrant women in the custody of ICE without their consent many other woman have also come out and said they have been through the same abuse , Ice has an history of treating immigrants as criminals and so they subject them to humiliation and brutality, Itā€™s shown that Migrants who had been coming from Mexico for generations to work were now being treated as suspected criminals.

Reflection: After reading this article I agree with the author’s views on how ice and the government are taking the wrong steps and procedures on how they are handling and treating immigrants being held at detention centers this article supports my main research questions because it is showing the wrongdoings ice is doing with their immigration laws.

Quotation: ā€œ It demonstrates yet again the shortcomings and failures of the Department of Homeland Security and ICE. We need an agency that understands this countryā€™s complex immigration history and the needs of our communities. Central to that mission should be treating migrants with basic human rights.ā€
