Ocasio-Cortez is from a Latino working class community. She is an advocate of people of color and women. She is addressing the verbal aggression towards her from Rep. Yoho. She is addressing this issue not because she feels hurt, but because she believes this was not only towards her but, towards all the congresses woman she represents. Also, she claims that this is more of a cultural issue and not just something towards her. She believes that the way he spoke to her and the offensive words he used are not just a matter of being disrespectful but, his and his community’s way of thinking and treating woman.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez discourse community is women and women of color.

The issue that Cortez is addressing is the disrespect that Representative Yoho has committed towards her. She is stating that it is very dehumanizing to use verbal aggression towards women. She doesn’t care about an apology but that men like Representative Yoho stop degrading women with such awful words.

We’re being asked to watch and read this speech after reading Kothari, Douglass, and Wollstonecraft and discussing Discourse Communities because we want to notice the difference between addressing an audience in speeches, letters and any other forms of writing. They all have different discourse community yet they all ask for respect in regards to what makes them different.

I believe that the discursive community of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez it is a community for women’s rights. Alexandria in this article we solve many problems at once:
    1. Tries to show in her own words that even in our advanced times there is a lack of impunity for violence.
    2. The whole power structure supports violence and harsh language against women.
With her own words, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes shows that they still use offensive language against their wives, daughters, sisters, which is unacceptable.
The target audience for this talk is members of the House of Congress. But I think that these words are desirable for all people of our society to hear. For men, in order to think about their behavior towards women, and for women to raise their self-esteem.
We are asked to read this speech, so that we understand in any situation we need to communicate with others in such a way that it would not hurt for our words and actions.

    1) A.O.C’s discourse community is women who have been verbally harassed and abused by men. In a literal sense, her discourse community would be The Congress and The House of Representatives.
    2) The issue she is addressing is the degrading and violent culture towards women from men in general and men who are in the position of power. Another issue she is addressing is how Mr. Yoho instead of apologizing, used his wife and his daughters as sheilds and as an excuse to prove his innocence. In addition to these issues, she is also talking about how by portraying this verbal abuse and disrespect towards women on national television he gave other men the green light to do the same and made it seem acceptable in the community.
    3) The intended audience for this speech is Congress. A.O.C is saying that a man who has this much power should not be excused for such behaviour and something should be done about it to set an example for others with him and after him.

    1. A.O.C’s discourse community in this case is feminist.

    2. The issue that is being addresed is about Representative Yoho, who happens to devalue A.O.C’s or women’s dignity in general. A.O.C states that, “It (Yoho’s talks) is a culture of a lack of impunity, of acceptance of violence and violent language against women, an entire structure of power that supports that.” it illustrates that even today in the modern; advanced country, women are still being harrassed and devalued by the american government, people with power or society.

    3. The speech is inteneded for the non-feminist community and especially the people like Yoho (people with power).

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez discourse community would be a feminist community. She fights for women’s rights and equality.
The issue she was addressing was the insults that Rep. Ted Yoho said to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She mentions how his comments didn’t hurt her in any way because she has heard this kind of language in New York City. However, it is devastating to say that society has normalized violent language against women. Regardless if you have a wife, daughter, mother, it doesn’t make a man decent. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez not only stood up for herself but for other women as well.
The intended audience for this speech is Rep. Ted Yoho and Congressmen.

Well, after watching half of the video of her press conference ,i got the idea of where she’s coming from based on my friends experience not that I’m a man. When I watched the full video this gave me an idea of what her message had implemented to my view of thought that she resembles a very strong noble women that belongs to women rights same as excerpt “Wollencraft”.My view for her being a women’s right reader is that she states evidence along with opinion that can be beneficial to other people dogma as well.

What is the issue she is addressing?

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (A.O.C), who was a victim of negative comments by Theodore Scott Yoho (Yoho), a member of the Republican party and also the third congressional district, AOC is not only referring to Yoho she was also a victim by the president of United States. AOS mainly refers to a group of men who take advantage of their power.
The issue A.O.C is addressing in her speech is how she was a victim of negative comments by Ted Yoho, and which Republican member Ted Yoho denied, however, she does not want an apology for his behavior and even knows that she will not get an apology by republican member Ted Yoho.
I believe the audience is women, the members of houses and representatives, she also refers to Republican members Ted Yoho’s daughter stating that she is younger than Ted Yoho’s youngest daughter and she’s also someone’s daughter.
I believe we were asked to watch and read about A.O.C because she also can be a model and the model fro previous reading that is similar to the AOC situation is Mary Wollstonecraft because she wrote a letter on women’s rights and A.O.C is also wanting women’s rights.

1-I believe Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Discourse Community is the rebuke of sexism.

2- Ted Yoho had reportedly called Alexandria a vulgar insult. She is addressing that violent language against women is wrong. She states that although Representative Yoho’s comments were not deeply hurtful or piercing to her, it is still wrong. Treating people with dignity and respect makes a decent man. So when Ted was wrong for what he said to her and should’ve had the decency to apologize to the harm he has caused.

3- I believe the audience in this speech is intended to the people who have the same mindset as Ted Yoho. I am hoping they get to change their mindset after this speech.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez discourse community would be women rights, equal respect or the feminist movement because here speech mainly revolves around that point, the issue she is addressing here is the harassment of woman by men the fact that men think its ok to degrade women everywhere, she talks from personal experience living in new york city she has been harassed countless of times so this is not new to her its just shocking. she responded by saying how rep. Ted yoho harassed her in a public professional setting, a place she never expected to be disrespected at. The audience this speech was intended for is victims of verbal abuse and men like representative soho who disrespect woman with no remorse this shows them that it’s not okay and i say we are being asked to read this speech after Kothari, Douglass, and Wollstonecraft because they all have things in common like they all are part of Dcs and they all stood up for something by saying a speech or a letter.

A.O.C is an American politician serving as the US representative for New York’s 14th congressional district. She is a woman who has lived through the struggle, who has experienced it first hand. She is a woman who had both the fortunate and misfortunate opportunity to be born in NYC, in the top 5 of the most diverse cities in the United States, the other 5 being cities in California. Because of this, she has ” experienced the struggle “. The struggle of being poor in a major city, the struggle of living in a ghetto, the struggle of requiring public transport, the struggle of being a woman in a city where there are millions of different people who have both negative and positive opinions of women.
AOC is addressing the harassment of men towards women in the article, specifically citing the interaction between her and Representative Yoho. She cites the problem is cultural impunity, and how men feel their actions of violence and violent language have no reprocussions. In the video, AOC addresses Joe Biden’s campagin, telling young voters to make the push and go out to vote, as well as talking about a national health care issue.
