The Declaration of Independence was an important document that was written and signed into law to provide the United States Independence from Great Britain in 1977. The purpose of the first section was to express the issues of the current type of government and the need for change. In the letter it states, “That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. ” This shows how the people wanted change to pursue the happiness they were looking for, it was a call to action to provide citizens life and liberty. In the second part of the declaration its portraying the issues of the current government, it states, “To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world….For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:…” This analyzes how citizens were being treated unfairly, with no knowledge from the people above about being taxed. The purpose of these quotes are how they were trying to prove the difference in point of views and human rights. What I find persuasive about this document is how all the issues and problems are listed briefly regarding Great Britain and its power over the states. The words “He” and “For” are repeated on each line as a way to express the needs for change and find a resolution as well as putting blame on Great Britain. In the article by Randy Barnett in The Washington Post one of his claims states, ““We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” This claim is very relatable to current issues in American Society today. Race and Slavery has been a topic of conversation for many years and how people with color have been treated unfairly for many decades . This claim provides how “all men are created equal” therefore, everyone even if their is a difference in skin color, should be treated the same way and no one should have an advantage on anyone due to their skin color. This relates to recent protests in this country and how Law Enforcement has treated white people and black people in different ways that is not equal.
