Before class on Monday…

  • Work on your U1 Major Assignment. (I strongly suggest you write at least 500 words by class time!)
  • If you have a laptop or tablet, please bring it during both classes this week, because we’re going to spend most of class writing!
  • Review “Citation and Formatting Guide” (City Tech Library).
  • Review “MLA Style Introduction” (Purdue OWL).
  • Review “Writing Transitions” (Purdue OWL).
  • Review “What’s a Paragraph?” by Carrie Hall.

During class on Monday…

Write:

  • If you attended class on Thursday
    • Continue working on your U1 Education Narrative.
      • Be sure to bring your copy of “My Shitty First Draft” that you completed last session and a device to type or notepaper to write on.
  • If you did NOT attend class on Thursday
    • Complete a worksheet during class titled “My Shitty First Draft.”
      • You will receive a copy from me.
        • This document will help guide you through writing your first draft of the U1 Education Narrative, which is due 3/6!

Before class on Wednesday…

  • Continue drafting your U1 Education Narrative.
  • If you’d like me to look at your essay, come visit me during my office hour!
  • To earn 10 points of extra credit on your U1 Education Narrative, schedule a session at the Writing Center. You can do this anytime between now and the final draft due date.
    • Ask the tutor to email me after you’ve attended–the only way you’ll get those points!
    • How do you schedule a tutoring session? Are they in person or online? Look here to answer all your questions!

During class on Wednesday, we will…

Write:

  • Work on Unit 1: Education Narrative on your own for a specified amount of time.
    • Find at least one place where you can describe a person, place, or action/event using vivid description. Consider all five senses and add at least two to that description.
    • Find at least one place where you can add dialogue and do so.
  • Email whatever you’ve written or hand over your copy to an assigned peer. When you receive your partner’s draft, quickly read and respond to the following questions on a worksheet I will provide.
  • Be sure to show me the worksheets before you leave for the day and then give the worksheet to your partner!
    • This will give you credit for your low-stakes writing grade (worth 30% of your overall grade)!

After Wednesday’s class, do the following…

  • If you’d like me to look at your essay, come visit me during my office hour!
  • To earn 10 points of extra credit on your U1 Education Narrative, schedule a session at the Writing Center. You can do this anytime between now and the final draft due date.
    • Ask the tutor to email me after you’ve attended–the only way you’ll get those points!
    • How do you schedule a tutoring session? Are they in person or online? Look here to answer all your questions!
