It is important to choose what is, and what is not in the frame when taking a photograph. This is ultimately what gives your photo meaning and dimension. Perception is key, “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” This technique can increase the complexity and creativity of any composition, creating a piece that is far more interesting and pleasing to the viewer. Choosing what is, and what is not in the frame allows you to be in control of how something is perceived. A subject can go from being the focal point of a photograph, to somewhere lost and blended in with the composition. Simple or vague subjects can become significantly more captivating depending on the angle, lighting, and framing of the photograph. Each element of a photograph contributes to its overall quality and meaning. It’s up to the photographer to decide what those elements are, and how they want them to appear.
