- Dawoud Bay: Using photography to capture history, to portray a deep interest in describing a black subject, and the experiences, and to convey a deep complex humanity. One of his works is photos relating to the underground railroads, having no humans in the photos and having little light, taking the perspective of the fugitives themselves, “to make the invisible visible”.
- Carrie Mae Weems: Uses the environment around her (of her own home) to create a story. As such with the project setting being at the table, wanting to call attention to, the battle around the family, monogamy, polygamy, and between the sexes.
- My Voice: I would try different angles, lighting, color, and subjects as truthfully I don’t know what voice I have or want to share.
In finding your voice, find a passion. You express yourself in different ways.. It doesn’t have to be photography. Experiment and give yourself time to develop
