Overview

The only way to improve your photography is to take pictures. This grading formula rewards taking pictures consistently over the semester with the aim of making you a better photographer. There are lab exercises, discussions, and homework assignments every week. If you complete these conscientiously and on time, you will get full credit. Midterm and Final projects will be graded for quality and creativity with a rubric.

Final Grades will be based on:

  • Homework: 25%
  • Projects: 30%
  • Lab exercises and classwork: 25%
  • Essay: 10%
  • Discussions: 10%

Homework

Homework will be assigned each week of the semester and be due before the start of the following class. Use Flickr to hand in homework.

To get full credit , you must fulfill the requirements for each homework and uploading to Flickr in a labeled album.

Homework is graded on a scale of 5/10 – 10/10. 5/10 is a grade that corresponds to not doing the homework. 10/10 corresponds to meeting all the requirements for each homework including submitted on time. Late homework loses 1 point per week. If you need to submit homework late, you must inform me when you do so.

Discussions

Discussions will be assigned throughout the semester. They will require written or visual responses. They must be completed on the date due and submitted to Open Lab. Discussions will not be accepted if more than one week late, unless absent due to illness.

Projects

Projects will take place over several weeks with components due each week. They will be graded according to the project rubric which rewards creative and varied use of composition, good technique and participation in critiques.
