artist statement + reviewers memo

My topic is climate change, I became interested in this topic a couple years back when I started noticing that there was warm weather at times it was supposed to be cold weather season. Even these days we have warm weather even though we are in November already. Also, a lot of people do not have knowledge about climate change because it isn’t taught in school and if it is it is to a certain extent; not enough content is taught. This inspired me to write about this topic because I believe a lot more people around the world should be more educated about climate change. I picked to next generation as my audience because I feel like they are the most important audience because they are able to take actions in order to slow down global warming. Maybe today’s society could be a good audience, but a lot are oblivious to what is happening around the world. I chose a magazine as my genre because I believe that is something that will catch my audience attention, also I would like to show pictures of the effect of climate change for those that are oblivious to what is happening to our planet. Photo magazines like Teen Vogue, easily catches the younger generation because of the pictures it uses also the topics are usually not the same as you would see in a regular magazine for adults or newspapers. The purpose of my piece is to convince my audience that climate change is a real thing by showing them what is causing global warming. I like how my paper is going so far because it is something that will be clear to the audience. What I would’ve done differently is my genre, I would’ve changed it to a social media post because almost everyone is on social media and that is the easiest and most successful way to get the next generations attention.

REVIEWERS MEMO:

I wrote this piece because I want people to become more aware of what is going around the world when it comes to the weather conditions. Climate change is not only destroying humans’ homes, but it is also destroying many animals’ homes. What I think I need help with is putting all my information into one page because I am using Teen Vogue as a reference and their topics are one page also adding photos to get the audience to understand more what I’m trying to portray. I’m proud of how my paper is coming together even though I am struggling a bit I believe it will be in a format that the reader is able to understand.

Artist’s Statement

For this project, my topic is how can comic based movies capture the creativity that has been shown in its original content. A lot of people especially film makers don’t know how can a one hour and thirty minute movie is supposed to capture your attention that was based on a comic book, a comic book that has a tons of issues and storylines that have changed throughout the years or sometimes it just doesn’t have any words. The art itself hooks you in and you understand what is happening just by looking at it. How are you supposed to get someone invested in your film and how can you make them feel curious the same way they felt when reading these comics? Well you start of like everyone who tries to come up with an idea, you start wondering what made this comic so popular, how or why did the other come up with this story, what is so interesting about these characters and what was happening in the world, did it have any impact on the story? After that you start your research, you start getting creative and wondering how you are going to make it, how you are going to rip these pages out of the book and put it on a screen. I think the best way to reach out to my audience is by making a video, something that film makers and film critics might feel that it is more engaging since they are just watching something. It would be like a 4-minute film explaining and showing creativity. For me this was the best way to get to my point because it is visual and it is also similar to my topic, since it is based on movies, so it can be easier to understand. It will not seem to bland or boring and I feel that film makers or film critics do not have the time to read an article. I have always been curious into knowing more about comics, so it is satisfying when it is turned in to a film, but it can also make you feel dissatisfied if it done wrong. I feel confident in my project and I will not only record my voice, but I will also show a few pictures that will support my topic and spread my message that I am trying to expand. It will free up and open a film maker to more innovative idea while also teaching film critics to try to research more about the topic before giving their opinion. I sometimes try to stay away from reviews because I would always see these movies have a bad rating but so many people enjoyed it and appreciated. Sometimes these criticisms can damage the film when it is actually trying something new and succeeded on showing it.

Discussion Forum Jacob

For this project my topic was school uniforms, I feel people don’t talk about this topic, this topic is important because the use of uniforms is starting to spread more and more around schools around the United States. This is a practice that I had to do for some years, and I never liked it, but I believe the reason why I did not like it, is because no one ever explained to me why we had to wear them or what was the meaning behind it. So, I want to explain to students that have to wear uniforms why they have to wear them so they don’t feel like wearing those uniforms is just a non-sense. The way I wanna approach my topic is by doing a podcast where I wanna bring two people to talk about the topic. My stand on the topic is going to be totally neutral I am just going to give the pros and cons, history about the topic, and general information, therefore the other two integrants are the ones that are going to give their opinion on the topic. I think, so far I have the idea of what I want to do but I haven’t worked on a script yet because I want to do some improvisation I don’t want to sound like I am reading from a paper so it feels more natural, but I still have to create like the segments so I have a timeline to follow and it doesn’t feel like I don’t know what I am talking about. I am proud that my idea is really interesting and at the same time, I am excited about the topic which means that I am going to do a better job, whenever I have a project and I like the topic I tend to put more effort into it. I do not think I need help so far but if I ever have questions I know I can ask my professor or the people from my group. One thing that some times worry me is the fact that this is a topic that can be really boring but this is why I wanna try to make it as interesting as possible, I think the best way to get peoples’ attention is by keeping it fresh like I said to follow a small timeline and script but also use improv. Right now what I am going to work on is figuring out the topics, I already know some of them but I have to organize it so it makes sense. What I have done for the timeline so far is, history of the uniforms, then I want to talk about the pros and cons, then let the other two participants say what they think about the pros and cons, maybe they can agree in pro but then disagree and this is where I can start asking more questions to get deeper to their reasoning, once that is done I wanna talk about the rules to implement uniforms, like how they are implemented in a way that it’s fair for the students and parents. The two integrants are probably going to be ex-classmates I had, I have been in many schools so I have had to wear uniforms and I have not had to, I think bringing to participants like that is gonna make more genuine because they are going to share ideas with other people that also think like them.
