In this article the author talks about how California community college system is currently being affected for the decrease of students applying to college and how many community college are losing a big amount of students ever year, and ever since covid-19 happened many students are leaving since colleges are offering online class that some students could find online or some just don’t like the online style and prefer an In person learning, and how also the areas that are being most affected are the ones on the rural part of California and show how many college are losing 25 thousand students alone, which is a very concerning number since those numbers are predicted to go down even further due to covid-19.

As we can see California higher education system is currently being affected in major way since many students are opting out of college and now due to covid-19 that number might increase exponentially and the even worst part is that California is not the worst out of other states being affected another state that is Alabama, we could see this when the author mention In the text.” Nationally, community colleges are seeing what appear to be even more significant enrollment declines than California. The 24-campus Alabama Community College system, for example, has seen a 29% decline, and enrollments at the 14 community colleges in Pennsylvania are down anywhere from 3% to 30% this fall,”. As we could see from this portion of the text America as a whole is pretty much in a crisis for higher education and is really bad for us the future, because apart that we would have less specialist we are closing and destroying peoples dreams since either they cant afford college or a community college may not offer the career the student wants.

Overall this text is concluding my opinion and answering the current state the education system is currently in which is in danger since less people are interested in college which means the less funding the college would have, which is something to worried about because there are some people that really want an opportunity to grow but there are few options were they could chose from without spending loads of amount of money, I just hope after covid-19 things get better and people start enrolling to college for them to have more funding offering more opportunities to more people.

This article talks about the absurd amounts of people that have either left college or not enrolled for college is a very big amount that is something to worry about, the author also talks about how more Hispanics are attending to college than blacks, white and Asian and how they are most likely to graduate from college and go to work, and he also mentions how the main reason why people are not attending to college because people don’t see a big difference in their salary compared to their peers that just graduates college which makes it a big factor on their decision since they think why should I risk paying money to receive a couple of thousands more than my peers that just attended to highs school, which is a valid reason why not to attend but could be very affecting in the future since we would have less specialized people to complex work or if an another pandemic like this hits again and we won’t have enough doctors or nurses to helps us.

A very shocking fact that I’ve found the text which surprised me alot is when the author mention the number of people that has enrolled to college and left in the past two years, we could see him mention this in the second paragraph of the text,” Between 2012 and 2013, the Census Bureau reported last week, 463,000 fewer people were enrolled in college. In fact, this is the second year enrollment has fallen by that much, bringing the two-year total to 930,000 fewer college students, bigger than any drop before the recession.”. When the author mention this fact on the article I was really surprised because in two years pretty much a million of people have dropped out of college that’s a big amount of people that have left higher education which is very concerning because if at least half of those people graduated college we would have 450,000 specialized students suspecting If half of the people in that million graduates, but overall knowing this fact is very concerning since is a very big amount of people colleges are losing.

Overall I feel like this article has raised my concern and answered my question, since I gave me facts and stats about my question which is the amount of student s that has left college which is half a million per year, which is a very concerning number and the reason why people are opting out of college since there are not enough reason on why people should seek for higher education since is not that big difference in the pay from a person that graduates from high school, which like I said before is a very understandable decision as a personal level but over the time the less specialist we have the harder it would be for us to seek for help that would need someone with the knowledge and skills needed for complex work, but sadly the way to survive is by making money which is what makes people ditch college and focus on way to make money to live comfortably.

https://www.michiganradio.org/post/fewer-students-are-going-community-college-despite-high-unemployment

In this article the author talks about how hard community colleges and specially private universities are being affected due to the current pandemic we are going through and the economic problems we are facing are part of that as well, another point the author that pointed out is that usually around this time of high unemployment many students and adults are interested into joining college for them to learn skills and for them to get into the workforce but nowadays that ideology is not correct, which is very concerning due to the situation we are going through and the future of future of our country, because if this continues we won’t have enough specialize people that would meet our needs.

As I continued to go more in depth with the article a small section of the text caught my attention is when the author said, “Hardest hit were community colleges, which traditionally serve lower-income students and those seeking additional career skills. The enrollment drop comes as many of those schools face a host of new financial pressures.”. This small portion of the text caught my attention since I showed how even community colleges are having problems financially since there hasn’t been enough people sign up to their schools which makes it real problems because pretty much community colleges are funded through the students and local and federal funding and if the enrollment numbers keep decreasing some colleges may have to close due to financial problems due  to not enough students enrolling close closing opportunities to new students to access college.

I learned from this text is that currently with corona virus and the declining interest of people attending to college, many community college and even private universities many be in need to close, because they won’t have financial funding they need to operate, which apart from losing colleges we are making many students lose opportunities in the careers to specialized making them less interested in school since they are not able to pay for the college expenses  or they are not interested spending large amount of money in school and deciding to use that money to start a business, making less people attend to college and continuing the trend of less people graduating from college.
