“A talk to teachers”

When James Baldwin said the following anecdote he was saying that he as a teacher would overturn any limitations set upon him by the administration. He would go out of his way to teach the student what isn’t taught. Whether it’s pleasant or unpleasant he believes that the student should have a right to to be curious. America’s history taught in the American education limits its teachings from being rich in diversity due to the restrictions imposed. When he says “The world Is larger” I believe he is saying that America limits its history to portray itself as a trustworthy strong country that does right by its citizens. On the contrary it’s actually the opposite, Eurasian views differ from how we view ourselves.  One example that isn’t talked about as often during the Cold War topic in history, Operation Northwoods was suggested to JFK to conduct various Nefarious attacks on U.S citizens by the CIA and then they’d pin it on Cuba conducting the terrorist attacks. I believe I have a necessity to learn about any country’s history, the good & the bad. I have an obligation  to learn more about the perspective of another country’s perception of the one I reside in, to learn more about business. I want to learn those two topics because business is such a broad subject you can learn to be financially situated in today’s economy through various methods. Learning another country’s perception of the one I reside in can allow me to further question the country I reside in. Is the “American dream” a reality? Is this land really “The land of the free & home of the brave? I believe that education in general no matter what country you go learn from is biased. Which is why I love immersing myself in World history and U.S history.

1. I liked when you said, ” I had an open mind, if I failed, then I learned from it not to discourage myself”, because I personally can relate to this quote because I entered into college with an open mind.

2.  I got this from reading your work: You were having difficulty in middle school getting grades due to the teacher’s lack of motivation and you felt discouraged. You worked harder towards getting good grades.  When the final day of middle school came along, you were extremely nervous when they were giving report cards. When you got yours back you felt relief and boosted in confidence. You entered H.S with an open mind and was in Honor roll society. You ended off your H.S experience strong up until Covid in your senior year. Covid ruined the plans with your friends, affected you & your family & academically limited your education due to a bombardment of work.

3. I found this part interesting because: “I made it to the honor roll, and not once did I fail a class.” The entire 180 you did from your middle school self to your high school self is noticeable & great because you bettered yourself in the education environment by yourself.

4. I got confused here: I  honestly wasn’t confused while reading your essay because it was straight forward.

5. I wanted to know more about the teacher’s reaction whether it’ll be the middle school teachers or the H.S teachers. I want to know the H.S teachers response to the dramatic change and the shift into that well adjusted dedicated student. I also would like to know the middle school teachers response to you proving their concerns wrong.

Ending comment: A quote that stuck with me was, ” I was amazed by what I have done, and I had more confidence in myself” This quote was supported behind the entirety of your essay and exemplified how a student can become an ideal student in the education system. Despite the lack of motivation & faith you overcame the challenge.

Education narrative

I was 16 years old it was spring the temperature was a nice cool hoodie weather. It was the period before lunch I was in the class, to the left of me was the mini library/ reading area to the right was a table and a white board next to it. My class was being dismissed and other students were entering to relax during lunch in the ELA room. Before I left the class the teacher was giving us our essays back. I got a 5.5/6 and was shocked because I followed the template, used academic vocabulary properly and displayed no grammatical errors. I reached out to my girlfriend and my friends if they saw something wrong with my essay they said they saw nothing. I asked the teacher she said I can’t help you You have to figure it out yourself. I revised it once and got the same score and she said the “issues” I fixed weren’t issues and to look harder rather than helping me spot out the issue. I was oblivious to she disregarded my concern and said I can’t help you when it’s the Ap exam. Later that day she was helping other students who were her favorites as favoritism was acceptable in my school when it came to extending deadlines and helping that person in any way despite her saying we’d have to do it ourselves. That situation shifted my perception about the education system because favoritism amongst students filled the learning environment with advantages for certain students and created  a toxic work culture. That experience affected my confidence and ability in essay writing such as realizing my mistakes and restricting myself from learning from that error I’d make.
