Curiosity

Curiosity is a driving factor that promotes maturity through everyone’s adolescent years. Growing up I was always interested in numbers & how to make money. Numbers are the basis for our everyday life. They allow organization, money managment & computations to be solved. My high school didn’t offer a proper financial class on how to manage or invest money. I took Accounting as my major to help businesses & people organize/manage their money. Through accounting I’m learning ways on how to invest money such as assets. Through my cousin I’m learning the stock market. With knowledge of these two I can live off a primary & passive income through my childhood curiosity.

Why is sleep essential for living a healthy life?

Sleep is a complex & dynamic process that influences how we function throughout the day. Sleep effects our mood, critical thinking & overall heath. Sleep consist of three stages. Stage 1- A period in which we switch from wakefulness to sleep. Stage 2- A  period before you enter deep sleep your heartbeat, breathing, and eye movements slow. Stage 3- A period of deep sleep in which your heartbeat, breathing & eye movement are at their lowest levels. Rem sleep occurs 90 min after falling asleep. Your eye movement rapidly moves side to side. Your heart rate & blood pressure increase while your breathing becomes irregular. Your muscles are paralyzed & most dreams occur in this state.

How can insomnia affect healthy sleeping behavior?

Can dreams occur in non-Rem sleep?

Insomnia can affect your sleep in multiple ways. Insomnia can fall into two categories Sleep-onset insomnia & Sleep maintenance insomnia. Onset insomnia refers to difficulty sleeping while maintenance insomnia refers to trouble staying asleep. Various factors may influence insomnia such as screen time, noise, light, health & substances that affect sleeping such as caffeine.

Yes a study found that low frequency brain waves occur during both cycles. This area allowed the researchers to predict when a person was dreaming however dreams in Non-Rem sleep are merely impossible to recollect.

Overall this topic was very interesting to me. It allowed me to immerse myself in such a broad topic such as sleeping. I learned the negative effects of an unhealthy sleeping behavior. As well as how a medical condition such as insomnia can affect to what extent your sleeping behavior is impacted.

How to write meaningful peer response

DBJ

Author & reading covered: Meaningful peer response by Ron DePeter

Pg- 45

Quotation- “Students were often reluctant to write questions, which they viewed as critical, because they did not want to be perceived as “judging” their peers’ experiences, thoughts, or feelings”

Analysis- I feel this way sometimes when peer reviewing someone’s essay. When i write down a question i think to myself how it comes off as critical or straightforward without misinterpretation. Often I am reluctant to further critique a person’s essay with questions for that reason.

Pg- 47

Quotation- “Recognizing how you’ve changed over time and looking back on your younger self is such a human thing to do and extremely relatable. I think we’ve all been there”

Analysis- I think this technique is very effective. It shows that the reader was engaged with the reading. As well as offers insight on how the reader/audience related to what the author wrote.

Pg- 48

Quotation- “Being a peer responder is not just about being a good one or a bad one, it is, just as it is with your writing, about your investment in joining a real conversation with others”

Analysis- Viewing it from this stance honestly is a good perspective. I always viewed it as comments rather than a discussion. This stance would further enable my peer review effectiveness.

Pg- Overview

Quotation- “Praise is an important element of peer and teacher feedback—it can, to quote Donald Daiker, “lift the hearts, as well as the pens”

Analysis- I agree with this quote. This quote infers that positive criticism can be just as beneficial to the person as well as their writing. This simile correlates a pen and heart which are both within the writer’s possession.
