Unit 3 genre discussion

In Unit 2 I did research on technology. I based it off of two articles, a cartoon, and a short video. I referred to the cons and the pros of technology while also comparing life before and after. My audience is the younger generation, my topic  question was about how does technology effect adolescents. I believe that if this was addressed to adults or parents of young children, they would already have an opinion and knowledge about this topic, since older people aren’t as tech savvy.  My generation, and young adults, might not recognize the effects since we are so used to having it as part of our daily lives. We can’t picture a life without it, so informing them and changing their perspective would be more effective.  Since we are so used to quick, attention grabbing visuals, I think it would be helpful to use a visual representation for Unit 3.  I thought of this because of a social documentary I saw on Netflix, they used role play, interviews for tech stories, and many more to grab the audience. I think anything creative, short, or even flashy would be more constructive outlook for teens or kids. A boring lecture or endless boring facts could easily distract people from the topic. It’s supposed to raise curiosity, perspective and attentiveness to our mindless situations, while also being relatable and informative. It could be an edited visual skit or maybe a film of my own making. I hope to have a clear, creative, and enjoyable output for Unit 3.

Fishburne Tom. Evolution of Digital Transformation.  Digital Image. Marktoonist. Marktoonist. Web. 16 August 2020.

This is an image referring to the development of technology. The first stage would be when the computer was first popularized in the 80s, then the second homo sapien  would represent  companies trying to make a profit or an electronical market. The third one is very relevant to the younger generations, while the fourth one is accurately depicted to keep us active and addicted to our screens.  I like to think the modern man being dragged is there to represent the negative consequences and inadequate purposes, saying that we have gone a little too far and it’s become more of a hindrance than a benefit. It’s also notable to recognize the upgraded materials that is relevant to each time period, the last one even has a business tablet and a phone.  Overall the statements referred to a shallow or business- like motive, which I completely agree on.  Tom Fishburne even gave a little background on his cartoon, how he used to help build web sites for companies in the 90s. The website launched, there was a big deal about it uploading,  then business went back to usual, and he moved on to the next client’s web site. He added that the development isn’t an event but a process, while most companies “are still in the early stages of their technology transformation.” I believe some companies are realizing their passionless audience, and are reinventing new clarified ways to instill inspiration and action in their audiences, in a market that is driven for a simple click, attentiveness, or longer screen time.

I agree with this cartoon,  I thought it was an artistic short way of supporting my technology topic.  I see the cartoon as humans evolving with our technological attachments.  That there aren’t many creative, positive platforms that aren’t marketed for your best influence. When your electronic feed is engineered daily, and meant for attracting views or customers. This may not be a stable effective pressure on teenagers or younger adults. Not alone does this further my curiosity on the methods of mechanical business and marketing, but reminds me on how to take advantage of what I have and not be a mindless, unproductive slave.

“Digital transformation is a process, not an event, and the goals and priorities of the journey are different for every company. Just as COVID is bringing fresh urgency to make changes, there is resistance to how deep those changes should go.”

Wong Shellley. “Benefits of Science and Technology” YouTube. (October 31, 2015)

This is a 4 minute video, that’s aesthetically pleasing and obvious, that puts into perspective how technology has shaped our lives. They show a clip on transportation, how easy it is to get to school by bus and train. Living in New York, we see how far technology has changed our city, and therefore our livelihood. As well as the plane for long distance. At first, I was thinking about social media and the phone, but this helped me realize how technology really impacts us today, to the extent where we explore different planets and areas in space. To think how many diseases and forms of treatment have been discovered and cured thanks to technology inventions, and the opportunity to find out more rehabilitative methods for the sick. Of course they mention communication, and how easy it is to reach someone. No more letters or waiting, now you can receive a text, call, email, Skype, and much more. They also mention the crime system and how they can identify delinquents. Technology has greatly improved in the justice system, such as records, lie detectors, and cameras.  It has even improved the education system, information is collected by the touch of a button.  Classrooms are filled with smart boards and PowerPoint slides, no more chalk boards. It’s an easy and efficient way to learn, when your assignments and lesson plans are saved on your drive. It also saves time with your resources, when you ask your parents for a definition, they don’t say look it up in the dictionary, they say look it up on the internet. The printer is also a great invention, that helps with reading, and transcribing information, imagine doing it all by hand! The video even mentions a 3D printer, actual items are made before your eyes.

This video isn’t bored on with facts and numbers, but was a helpful video on perspective. You get so used to the environment and don’t realize how different our lives would’ve been without technology. Though it is always evolving and inventing new ways to prosper our lives.  I think this helps our generation if we think about how we change the future. I am interested in the benefits, though I know disadvantages are great, as with anything in life. But curiosity feeds creativity and discovery for a better world.

”Our life standards have increased. Many diseases can be cured now.”
