At the end of Unit 2, the audience I decided that needed to hear about my research was white people that work in the beauty industry and white people that buy cosmetics and support certain makeup brands however, they don’t see the issue. Most importantly, another audience I thought needed to hear about my research is the whole beauty industry and black women. I need to narrow it down to a point where people will completely understand why this is an important topic and why it needs to be talked about. The genre I think is best to reach this audience will be a magazine because many older white women love reading magazines and many of the makeup brands advertise their brands and cosmetics through magazines such as “The Vogue Magazine.” For Unit 3, I want to state my opinions and the opinions of many black women and brands that are making a change. I additionally want to write about how much the beauty industry has changed and how magazines and advertisements look like today.
Will we be creating our own genres? such as our own magazines?
Is this our most important assignment that will determine whether we pass the class or not?
I love the idea! You could definitely write a magazine, article, or blog on how black women have been making positive changes in the beauty industry. One question I have is if you are you going to base it on a specific person? You can talk about the background of a celebrity. For example, Rihanna is known for her music. She also launched Fenty Beauty, which was a game-changer for the whole beauty industry. Many black women appreciated the many different shades she displayed in her line of makeup. That can also relate to how white women love reading about her brand because it was something that was trending. It is unavoidable not to come across her work because her brand provided 40 different types of foundation shades. There are some companies/brands that struggle to launch as many shades. I believe it is very impressive and it’s something you should mention in your magazine.
