This survey from 2014 represents the societies opinion about the causes of climate change. The question is why the earth is getting warmer, with three options to pick from, because of human activity, because of natural patterns and there is no solid answer. 50% of the American adults that took the survey believe is because of human activity while, 23% believe is because of natural patterns and 25% believe there is no solid evidence. The percentage of “there is no solid evidence” answer is higher than “because of natural patterns”. The percentage for those ranging in the age of 18-29 show that they are aware that the cause for the earth getting warmer is because of human activity and is higher than other age groups. Men and women have almost the same views on why the earth is getting warmer.
I believe the survey gives us an idea of what different age and race groups think about the reason for climate change. it is a good sign that the percentage for the age group of 18-29 because that means they are seeing that our actions have a big impact on earth. I think it is interesting that Hispanics have a 70% on believing that is it because of human activity, I think this is because a lot of Hispanics live on land surrounded by water therefore, they experience first-hand the changes of weather very often. I am surprised that people of 65+ years have a percentage of 33% for “no solid evidence” because they are able to see how much the climate has changed throughout their lives yet, they have a lower number on “human activity” which is also surprising because they have experienced many different inventions. I agree with this image because younger generations know more about climate change, so they are aware it is happening while older generations live in the dark. Another reason I agree with the image is because I agree that the cause of climate change is because of human activity. It shows what different race and age groups think about climate change. One question I have is why the older population does not think there is evidence of the earth getting warmer?
“Consistent with past surveys, there are wide differences by age in views about climate change, with adults ages 65 and older more skeptical than younger groups that there is solid evidence the earth is warming.”
