Manuel’s Favorite Poem

These are song lyrics from a song called “Only One” by Gallant

[Chorus]
As it’s all slipping away from me, you’re the only one (Only one)
In an unforeseen reality, you’re the only one (Ooh, yeah)
Am I headed for catastrophe or the morning sun? (Babe, uh)
‘Cause I know you’re already gone, you’re the only one, only one (Oh yeah)

[Verse 1]
It’s only gotten colder
In the room we said a flame would always burn
It’s been weighing heavy on your conscience and your shoulders
But you’re silent, mortified by that point of no return, yeah, uh

[Pre-Chorus]
Why delay the satisfaction, baby? You know what you want (Yeah)
You’ve been waking up in purgatory 7 weeks too long
Instead of dealing with the cause, you just keep hiding every symptom (Oh yeah, uh)
And it’s sad to see you suffer slow, so I’ll let you go

I really enjoy “Am I headed for catastrophe or the morning sun?” To me, the morning sun could signify hope/new beginnings, but it could also signify being burned alive…not to be too dark…haha. Thanks for sharing Manuel!

I can relate to “It’s been weighing heavy on your conscience and your shoulders” because stress builds up and I start to feel like I never want to leave bed anymore and do the things I want to do. My parents expectations of me are heavy enough to make me not want to try my best because the more I try the more I feel like I’m drowning in my own efforts.

I really enjoyed reading the lyrics to this song. It truly shows how much you observe someone limit themselves due to their own fears and as much as you want them to branch out, they are in this endless cycle. Then as much as it hurts to see them suffer sometimes you just have to distance yourself and let them figure out their own path by themselves. As someone who has been the one who limited themselves and also the one to see others limit themselves you kinda get a glance of what each person feels and what you can do to help. I also gave the song a listen and I loved it, thank you for introducing me to a new artist!!
