Part B:
“I was so fascinated that I went on–I copied the dictionary’s next page. And the same experience came when I studied that. With every succeeding page, I also learned of people and places and events from history. Actually the dictionary is like a miniature encyclopedia. Finally the dictionary’s A section had filled a whole tablet–and I went on into the B’s. That was the way I started copying what eventually became the entire dictionary. It went a lot faster after so much practice helped me to pick up handwriting speed. Between what I wrote in my tablet, and writing letters, during the rest of my time in prison I would guess I wrote a million words.”
When Malcolm X realized that he learned so much from just coping down words into a tablet he was excited. He was excited to learn more from this one learning technique he did and he probably thought of the possibility. With him finishing the A’s in the dictionary he moved on to the B’s and over time it became the whole dictionary. The more he wrote the better he got at writing and writing faster. He wrote so much and he didn’t mind it because loved writing. He wrote maybe 1 million words
Great way to break down Malcolm’s quote. I think I understood better reading your interpretation of the quote.
Nice comment from Ike. I am glad to see that we learn from each other — building community is just that! Helping each other with the hard work.
GOOD WORK, Michael!
