HW#3 Photoville

Going to Photoville was a very interesting experience and overall I enjoyed looking at all of the different photos. These are some of the photographs that really stood out to me. Two of my most favorite of the galleries were The Players’ Tribune and Viewfinder: The Art and Craft of the Film Still. I really liked the composition of the black and white photo, which was part of The Players’ Tribune. The contrast of the athlete against that white background really caught my attention. And how the subject is centered in the photograph. The photo I really liked from Viewfinder’s collection was this still from the movie I Am Legend. This collection was my favorite out of everything there because I really like movies and it was such a treat to see all of the different movie stills. I also included a picture of a turtle because he was there and very photogenic.

Indoor Light

The first picture I used the made use of the blue light being cast from on of the monitors in the hallway. The second picture I noticed the light coming from the bathroom to be giving off warm colors compared to the cool colors of the hallway. For the third picture I used the light from my phone to cast shadows throughout this sculpture.

LL #1 Artificial Light Portraits

For class we did a shooting workshop outside the class practicing light and shadow. The biggest challenges I had was trying to get the lighting right because I’m not used to shooting in dark lighting. For the first photo I was focused on trying to capture that moment of her taking a shot. The second photo was showing the light on her face contrast with the dark background. The third I was focused on the framing on the pose. The last one I was looking at how light kinda peeks out from behind him.

The photo I picked was #13, Davina and Daniel’s photography. I like this photo because I am a big fan of candid photography. Capturing people when they don’t realize it gives off a more natural feeling to a photo which I like. The expressions on everyone’s faces are fascinating to take in. The three bridesmaids are showing 3 separate emotions but you can still tell all three are happy for the bride. I also find the arrangement of the photo particular interesting to look at.  The angle at which everyone is framed leads the eye to the subject of the photo which is the bride. The bride is also in focus compared to the bridesmaids who are out of focus so she stands out more.
