In this assignment, students were asked to pick and design to improve the layout of each classroom on the 8th floor of Voorhees Hall. There are enough classrooms for students to work with. Having more than one room helps each student cover the 8th-floor faster and provides the class with more than one layout every iteration for each room.
Existing conditions of Voorhees Hall 8th floor.
This first room that I improved upon was room 811. This room is unique in its own way by utilizing two projectors for the class. It student desk are located in three sections with the desk facing each other and the professor’s desk is located in the back so that monitoring students is fairly easy.
V811 existing conditions.
Iteration 1 – Addition of extra computers (7) and pin-up space.
Iteration 2 – Reduction of extra computers so that pin-up space is emphasized more.
Iteration 3 – Moved projector screens to create storage space for classroom or students.
Iteration 4 – Different room layout facing another wall. Plotters, printers, and computers are in an extra space that helps make a wall for pin-up space.
Iteration 5 – Same layout scheme as Iteration 4 but with entrances on either end of extra computer space.
Iteration 6 – In this layout the desk are in a traditional orientation but they are facing what was space for plotters and printers, as a means to make a new pin-up and lecture display.
Iteration 7 – In this layout I changed the orientation of the student’s desk towards the projectors and professors desk towards the students to make it more traditional.
Iteration 8 – With this layout, I added extra pin-up space near the free computer space by changing the layout of the student’s desk on the right.
The second room is room 817. It is a larger room compared to room 811 and has more room for pin-up presentations. It has one overhead projector with overhead screen for presentations or lectures, desks for drafting and digital work. This room is a corner space of the Voorhees building with windows allowing natural light in.
V817 existing conditions
Iteration 1 – With this iteration, I made a stud area for students to utilize computers and a printer
Iteration 2 – Has the same extra study space layout as iteration 1, but desks are rearranged with different rows
Iteration 3 – Room has a different study space configuration, with closer pin-up space for students and professors.
Iteration 4 – Similar study space layout as iteration 3, but the room has a different desk layout.
