36 Hours under 59th Street, Manhattan

New York City is a huge city filled with tons of history from many cultures. You can get so much history by just staying under 59th street. Although 36 hours is not enough time to wander through every part of the city, grab your walking shoes and make sure your metro card is fill and let’s explore.

 

Friday

  1. Rockefeller Center 2pm

The holiday season is the perfect time to visit New York. Rockefeller Center is the best way to start your trip. Go for the view of the 94 feet tall and 56 feet wide tree coming from Oneonta, New York or go and put on a pair of skates. The rink is good for all ages. General admission is $32 and for children and seniors is just $12. If you need to rent skates it’s just $12. Rockefeller centre also offers 30 minutes skate lessons. After skating who wouldn’t be hungry. Go enjoy a hardy meal at the Rock Center Café. The seafood stew is sure to warm you up.

  1. Christmas Spectacular 8pm

In the spirit of Christmas a must see show while in New York. This is a fantastic show to see with family or for a date night. This show that’s been around since 1933 with few changes and people still love to see it each year. Classic numbers like the wooded soldiers are a favorite. The Living Nativity includes live animals walking across the stage. Tickets range from $67 to $373, but it is well worth it.

 

Saturday 10am

  1. 9/11 Memorial/ Museum

New York City is a strong and upbeat city. Although the tragedy of 9/11 shook everyone up the city pull through. New York opened a memorial and museum to inform and celebrate the lives of the people they lost during that time. The museum is very emotional there are actual pieces of the towers on display. Towards the end of the museum they have a place called notes of hope. You can leave a note that would be displayed. The memorial plaza is so beautiful. It’s a great place to people watch. You get to see the everyday people traveling about their day like true New Yorkers. An adult ticket is $24, child ticket $15 and student, senior, or veteran is $18.

  1. The Oculus 1pm

The Oculus was built after the train station was destroyed after 9/11. The Building is shaped like a flying dove, and cost over $4billion to make. The Oculus has about 100 stores like the apple store, Pandora, Vince Camuto and many more. The way the building is designed is so beautiful and looking at the structure from the inside is insane. Under ground is the New York City train station which will take you to your next destination.

 

  1. Lombardi’s 4pm

Who comes all the way to New York and doesn’t eat pizza. Trust me you haven’t lived until you tried a slice of pizza in New York. Located in the little Italy section of Manhattan Lombardi, the first pizzeria in the United States. This is just like any traditional NY pizzeria but they also serve wine and have a beer full bar available. Diner for the whole family would cost around $35.

  1. Foley Park 5pm

Foley Park is located in Little Italy as well. People come and enjoy the scenery. This park was filmed in the movie The Godfather in 1972 and Spider-Man 3. It was also a part of the set in Law & order. Around the park they have five bronze plates that tell the history of this park.

  1. Empire State Building 7pm

Much more like New York’s north star. Pretty much anywhere in the city you can look up and see the tip top of the building glowing in different colors every day. You can enjoy the 360 degree view from the 86th floor for $34. You can get a view central park, the Hudson river and east river, Brooklyn Bridge , Times Square, and of course The Statue Of Liberty.

Sunday

  1. Time Square 11am

 

Don’t think you’re leaving New York without visiting Time Square. When a person thinks about New York City this is what they picture. Big light and, fast movements. Time Square is the heart of New York. You can get your picture taken with the “Naked Cowboy” or get your picture drawn. Anyone who comes to visit NY must come down to 42nd street.

  1. Bryant Park 2pm

You must be tired from walking all over New York in 36 hours. Relax and grab a hot dog from the nearest hot dog stand and enjoy the view of Bryant park. Bryant Park is kind of the clam surrounded by the crazy of New York. Watch your kids on Le Carrousel which is only $3.

 

 

Lodging

Casablanca hotel in time square is the place to be. It located in the heart of the city and is right near the subway. This hotel is easy to get to and from places. A room would be around $259.
