For my class I had two Cast Members from Amourette’s Riley the Assistant Sous Chef and another Chef named Reuben came and explained to us the process it takes to create any form of cake and or pastry when it comes to involving any sort of character from a movie or show. Their process starts out with creating concept drawings of what the cake could look like trying to think of both practical and accurate to the theme of the character for example if you wanted to make a cake that depicted woody from toy story they would try to make it as accurate to toy story as possible by adding in lots of references that people would recognize but not too much because then the cake would be too much it has to be expressive but also simple. The next step in the planning process it to send a final version of the cake with all its bells and whistles and send it to the studio that created the movie and it’ll get reviewed and then sent back for either approval or it’ll get sent back for revisions and more often they would have it sent back for revisions for example they had a Wall-E Cake for earth day and they wanted to do a cake that looked like Wall-E but was sent back because the way they had presented it did not resemble Wall-E and did not include the Earth Day theme so instead of that they took the Plant in the boot from the movie and made it out of modeling chocolate and made the cake to look like earth instead and added a little edible image of EVA and Wall-E dancing with the Earth in the Background which was liked a lot more by the people at Pixar so they approved it. When it comes to months that celebrate a certain demographic of people the Executive chefs would have the chefs that more closely connected with the months theme like for Riley she made a Mardi Gras cake to celebrate International Women’s Day since she has a close connection to her home town, New Orleans so they gave her the chance to make it and she themed it around the characters from Princess and the Frog Lottie and Princess Tiana because in the movie they are so supportive of each other. I am so glad to have been apart of this experience it gave me great insight as to what goes into a cake at Amourette’s so much creativity and thought goes into each cake and it goes through such and interesting process to finalize the idea I had no clue that they actually had to speak to the creators of the characters themselves to even get approved for their designs it really gives me a lot of cake ideas and hope that maybe I could create a cake for characters of Disney or Pixar Films and it really makes you think about the amount of work that not only practically goes into making into a cake but the amount of paper work that these chefs go through to make a special cake.
