I was lucky enough to register for a Discover Disney in the dorms because of how hard it is to get one because of how fast they sell out. But I finally was able to get one for the Kilimanjaro Safaris. This event happened on Disney’s Animal Kingdom birthday. Where opened 26 years ago during Earth Day, April 22nd. DAK is accredited by World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) which is an acknowledgement that they have met or exceeded the standards in education, conservation, and research of animals. I have learned that the safari is vast because of how it can fit the Magic Kingdom and the half of its parking lot.

Before the ride, we had a quick tour of Africa where the tour guide CM shows us the sausage tree planted in the seating area of Tamu Tamu Refreshments. It is said that the fruit that it produces is extremely poisonous to humans but not to the animals. The only way it can be consumed is through the fermenting process turning it into alcohol, but even then, because of its potency, it is said that a small sip is enough to make you drunk. The CM also shows us a bunch of Easter eggs of hidden Mickey’s and Scar from Lion King with the hyenas hidden in the murals. I find that to be impressive because of how much effort is actually put into the theming.

Rafiki’s Planet Watch is said to have an animal but also a human hospital. There can be opportunities to watch doctors perform routine checkups on the animals in case there are emergencies where they need to be treated.

The tour began, and we are taken backstage where we are not allowed to take any pictures. They showed us the routine work that goes into the Safari trucks driven by the CMs on a regular basis for the attraction. There is a red clip attached to the trucks meaning that they are not for guests and needs to have a repair. It is also said that the gasoline used are propane gas which is healthy for humans and especially for the animals. There is also a huge land of vegetation for animals to consume. The Cast Members has different radio codes for the animals whether they are injured or out of position. Those positions are said to be perfect environment each and every animal. And if they are found to be out of it, the CMs are to report that situation and get the animals back on the assigned spot. It is to avoid any interactions with different animals that might turn into a disaster.
