Here are terms our class explored Week 12
Cage Free- MARIA – Products are not kept locked up or limited to no access to the outside. also known as “barn roaming”
Food Literacy –IA- Consumers who get a better understanding of food production and agricultural methods may choose which systems to support and which to avoid.
Food Waste– GENESIS- we’re not composting
Forage– GENESIS- you got in in the wild legally
Free Range– SHAZ – that the animals have a higher standard of welfare and are free to
roam
Green Collar or “cuello verde” ERICK – workers that focus on the agriculture
Local- GENESIS – It is from your community and near where you live. It did not travel
Locavore– LRE- “Locus” (Latin root for “local”) + “vorare” (Latin root for “to devour”) = locavore
Nose to Tail- TARYNN – using every part of an animal, from nose to tail, in order to avoid waste
Organic: JASON-to grow or made foods without using artificial chemicals.
Seafood Fraud– JEFFREY– when the customer is expecting to gain something, and the company does not give what they claimed
The 100 Mile Diet GUADALUPE– common unit of measure used to denote the maximum distance food can travel and still remain local to the consumer
I love how so many of these terms came up when we brainstormed topics for our research in ENG 1101–now I know we were on the right track for finding topics that relate to your HMGT studies and careers.
