A. Sign Audit and Wayfinding Analysis

Finding Your Way (Scavenger Hunt)

CityTech campus is a place of many obvious activities and processes, but many important aspects of the building and much of the College’s programs, culture, issues, politics and ‘personality’ remain invisible to visitors and, often, even to the population of students, instructors and staff.

Visit both the Atrium in the Namm Building and the Academic building. Your goal is to scout out the perfect location for your pop-up exhibit. You are also trying to determine areas within both of these buildings that can be used to promote your exhibit and lead visitors to the exhibit. The design of your pieces should take the actual spaces and physical qualities of the buildings as well as existing wayfinding graphics, into consideration.

Please search for and document as many of the following items as you can, with your camera.

Due 2/06

Put together and present a slide show of all the images you collect:

B. Site Analysis – Plan Outline

City Tech campus is dense with signs, typography, and other information related to campus life.

From last week’s Finding Your Way (Scavenger Hunt) hopefully, you have selected a single campus destination for your pop-up exhibit.

  1. Start with the NAMM building entrance on Jay Street and make a photo survey of how to get to the defined location.
  2. Along the way be sure to documentWayfinding SystemsExhibition Display possibilities , and Exhibition promotional possibilities.
  3. Edit your photos into the best and most interesting ten to fifteen for showing to the class.

Considerations:

  • Consider the ground plane.
  • Look up (you may need to shoot from a distance).
  • Look for media that do not specifically signs.
  • Variety of expression is important.

Presentation:

Make Jpegs of your best and most interesting 10 to 15 photos and save into the class Dropbox folder. You may want to name the photos with sequential numbers so they can be viewed in their intended order.

We will have an informal projected show in class.

Save your work into the Assignment2 folder in the class >>DropBox Folder
