What did you like/dislike about the site visit to the Carlyle? What I liked about the Carlyle was learning more about room rate and the people who’ve stayed at the Carlyle. I also liked finding out about its exclusivity. Finding out how being an exclusive hotel can be a great thing for many reasons. For example it can be convenient for some artist and for certain events as well as getting to say you stayed at an exclusive hotel.

How did you feel about going to the Carlyle? At first I was hesitant about going because I was unaware of such a hotel, hens its exclusivity. But I felt the warmth welcome once I stepped out of the cab in front of the hotel. The doormen was the first person who greeted me and helped me straight into the hotel and assisting me. After visiting the hotel I noticed a lot and like learning about what happens on the inside of the hotel, seeing what goes on and how people work. Visualizing guest actually feeling at home without being home.

1- how did you feel about going to the Carlyle?

normally I don’t wear suits, but we had to dress professional to the Carlyle. The trip over there in the train was different for me, I felt like people stared at me less, I also felt a bit more respected, some people said “excuse me sir” I have never been called sir in a train station, then being around a lot of men in suits or women dress professional I felt like I was one of them and also felt like I was important with a job title or with a good paying job. Overall it was a fantastic experience being to hotel rooms that I’ll probably never be able to afford and seeing the luxury people pay thousands of dollars for.

2-what did I like or dislike about the site visit to the Carlyle?

what I liked he most was that I had asked to see the kitchen once more and talk to chef Vincent and other associates in the kitchen to get a better view and details of how it is working at a kitchen. Chef Vincent was happy to teach me the torque, a 7 sided cut with a potato making it  have a football shape, although I am still learning and trying to get the hang of it, he was patient enough to give me tips and advice for the culinary industry.

What did you like/dislike about the site visit to The Carlyle?

What I liked about the Carlyle Hotel was that it had an amazing view. Everything was beautiful especially the base of Lily’s, it reminded me of my mom because she loves those type of flowers. The staff were very generous and were walking around with smiles on their face. Lastly, it seems like everyone knew each other everywhere we went, our tourist was introducing everyone to us, in which I feel like it makes the environment bright even more.

Did you feel prepared for what you experienced during the site visit?

No, I did not feel prepared, it was beyond beautiful. Everything was so calm and amazing. The staff seemed great as well! I didn’t expect to met the executive chef of the Carlyle Hotel. Also, the rooms all had a piano, in which I did not know they provide pianos. Visiting the Carlyle hotel was an amazing experience in which I would like to go again.

1.What was the most significant information you learned while at The Carlyle?

The most significant information I learned while at The Carlyle was the price of the rooms. I found it significant because to me it really let me know what type of guest stayed there.

  • What action will you take to network with the people you met?

The action I will take would be adding them on LinkedIn and as I further my education in hospitality  I see if they have internships available.

What did you like/dislike about the site visit to The Carlyle?

What I liked about The Carlyle Hotel was its luxurious look, the importance of everyone’s job to the hotel and the warm welcome from the people who work there. But what I liked the most was the history of The Royalty Suite; the name is kept after the royalty of Cambridge stayed there. To name a few of the famous guests who have stayed in The Royalty Suite are President John F. Kennedy, Michael Jackson, George Clooney, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Diana, and many more.

How did you feel about going to The Carlyle?

I have been to two other different hotels, when I compared the other hotels with The Carlyle Hotel it’s a totally different experience, the service, the expenses, the decor and the type of hotel. I have been to the Hudson Valley Resort and Spa, and is a really big hotel, it has a spa, an auditorium, a fitness center, a pool, a game room and a beautiful view to nature. The waiting area is huge and has a piano there. Activities can also be done outside the hotel in their courts, like golf, tennis, and basketball. It has a restaurant bigger than the one at The Carlyle Hotel, The Hudson Valley Resort and Spa has more service and less expensive whereas The Carlyle Hotel it does not have much service to the guests just a spa, a restaurant operating 24hrs and bar, but its elegance, the view to the city, location of the hotel and antiquity gives the room its high price. The rooms at the Carlyle hotel can cost from 5,000 up to 15,000 depending of the guest’s needs. A simple terrace or window looking to the city can make the room very expensive.

What did you like/dislike about the site visit to The Carlyle?

I like how Carlyle is unique in terms of having different art decor in each of the 195 rooms they have. Even the dining room was separated by color coding rooms. Moreover, their room key is very unique. Instead of using electronic card keys, they use a traditional room key but is electronically activated which was really cool. I have never seen that in my life before. It was The Carlyle’s way of remaining the “old-fashion” and vintage look for the hotel.

What was the most significant information you learned while at The Carlyle?

The most significant information i have learned while at The Carlyle is don’t set your mind into one specific thing, explore more because you don’t know what you opportunities you will end up with. For instance, the Director of Room Operations started out in the department of Food and Beverage, she didn’t know she would end up as the Director of Room Operations until she was given the opportunity to.

  2. What did you like/dislike about the site visit to The Carlyle?  What i liked about the Carlyle hotel was how nice enough they were to make us snacks when we first arrived.  I also liked how cooperative they were during the tour, answering every question and sharing their personal stories on how they made that far.  The only thing I don’t like about Carlyle hotel is how expensive they are!

1. What was the most significant information you learned while at The Carlyle?

At the Carlyle I learned that there is a department for everything . Starting from the front desk the restaurant housekeeping room service and etc; At the Carlyle I learned that there are people who actually lives there as permanent resident’s. The residents can sometime rent their room if they are away and the Hotel gets a certain percentage The most expensive room can range from $6,000 – $15,000. I learned about everybody’s job description and how everyone plays a major role on keeping the hotel most recognized .

2. How did you feel about going to The Carlyle?

Prior to arriving to The Carlyle I did a little bit of research on their website and didn’t seem to be too impressed by the pictures online. It seem like a hotel for much older people. However during my tour my judgement did change. I was so amazed by how clean the hotel was and how pleasant the staff was. The rooms and suites were unbelievable and some of the views were incredible. Although the hotel seem to attract a lot of older people by the way the rooms were designed and the decor, I feel like each room had its own significant style to it . Espically from the style of paintings on the wall.

What did you like/dislike about the site visit to The Carlyle?

What I liked about The Carlyle was the attention to small details. What stood out the most to me was the leather “do not disturb” signs and stationary pads. I felt this added a very upscale touch to a detail that is commonly overlooked. Another detail that I noticed was the unique way that the espresso cups were positioned. The Carlyle took the extra step to turn the coffee cups on their side with the handle going into another cup. This still achieves the purpose of keeping the cup clean while adding an extra aesthetic to another overlooked detail.

Did you feel prepared for what you experienced during the site visit?

I did feel prepared and had some expectations during the site visit. I did expect the five star hotel to have a gourmet dining options, full bar and lounge, 24 hour in room dining, and spa quality amenities. But during the visit, those expectations were surprisingly exceeded by what I saw up-close. I was under the impression that the rooms in the hotel were going to appear very conservative and vintage. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the rooms had contemporary furnishings, artwork, decorations, and appliances. The biggest surprise being the electronic metal keys with key readers in the key holes. This was a feature that I have never seen or heard of before in any hotel.
