Join African American Studies and Gender & Sexuality Studies in an
evening of solidarity, community, and remembrance as we honor the
lives of the Black and Latinx victims of gender-related hate crimes.
We will share some food together while we create T-shirts, buttons,
and other memorabilia to honor the Black and Latinx transgender
community members we have lost over the past year. We will end
the evening with a candlelight vigil and walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.
This event is free and open to all with a CUNY ID and a Cleared4 pass

TRANSforming the Conversation for Transgender Day of Remembrance was held on Friday, November 9th at noon in the Tillary Courtyard. It was an intimate and powerful gathering to hold space for the members of the global trans community, especially transgender women of color, who have been subject to violence and murder. Organized by SGA President, Abigail Thomas, the event was attended by faculty and students from City Tech and several other CUNY campuses.
On Friday, April 3rd, 2020 Gender & Sexuality Studies co-sponsored a virtual event with CLAGS: Center for LGBTQ Studies called COVID-19: Trans Live and Trans Studies. The event was a virtual dialogue featuring Susan Stryker (noted Transgender Studies scholar); Chanel Lopez (NYC Human Rights Commission); Amita Swadhin (Founder of Mirror Memoirs); Treva Ellison (Assistant Professor, Pomona College); Debanuj Dasgupta (CLAGS Board Co-Chair) and Red Washburn (CLAGS Board Member). It was moderated by City Tech’s Gender & Sexuality Studies Academic Minor Coordinator and CLAGS Board Member, Dr. Laura Westengard.
The participants had an engaging and nuanced discussion about the impact of pandemics on transgender and gender non-conforming lives and imagined ways to strengthen, build, and sustain our communities during these troubled times.
On Wednesday, April 3rd, 2019 we held the first ever Gender & Sexuality Studies roundtable!
Speaking Out: Gender & Sexuality at City Tech brought together students, faculty, and staff to discuss all things gender and sexuality at City Tech. Participants chatted about how City Tech can become a place where people of all genders and sexualities can co-exist and thrive, and they put their ideas up on the wall of the Grace Gallery as part of the Freedom of Speech pop up art show.
