Queering La Lengua

Queering La Lengua, a workshop on the non-normative uses of gender in the Spanish language, is back this fall with two sessions!

Who is this workshop for? Anyone who engages with Spanish personally or professionally!

Join session #1 on Thu 11/20 @ 1-2:30p for a deep discussion about why, when, and how breaking the rules of gender in language is a natural and political fact of culture that can help us move together towards diversity and solidarity.

Register here for Session #1: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1916519534519

Join session #2 on Thu 12/4 @ 1-2:30p for a lab, once acquainted with the current ingeniería lingüística, or uses of neutral and alternative forms to binary language, to practice how to avoid the generic masculine, utilizing collective and abstract nouns with no cultural gender.

Register here for Session #2: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1916525662849

We highly recommend that you will have attended the first session either this fall (Thurs 11/20) or last spring before attending Session #2, but it is not required. Session #1 will provide valuable background and context for Session #2.

Each session is 90 minutes and includes lunch with vegetarian options.

Each session will be held in person at CityTech in Room A104.

About your facilitator: Ángel of VOCES Language is a queer artist, bilingual writer, and community educator who has been creating and customizing curriculum for Spanish language learners for over 5 years and has taught through community spaces in Brooklyn, NY. Their teaching values encompass gender inclusivity, cultural sensitivity, and are rooted in economic and language justice.
