Mary Wollstonecraft wrote this letter to address the issues of womenâs rights, she was a big believer in independence and she believes that women deserve to be educated and that they wold be a great addition to society. She also makes the point that the writers of the constitution wold agree with her and support women. She sees this as a huge problem because she sees that women are treated as prudish and they are getting treated as if sex is what they are created foe, so she is making the lint that women have so much value and they need their independence. She says that men need to get morals and that âby teaching men not only â˘to respect modesty in women but â˘to become modest themselves, as the only way to deserve womenâs respect.â(Wollstonecraft, 1974, 2). She makes the point that women need to be educated or the process of knowledge would stop. Furthermore, Wollstonecraft brings the concept of patriotism, she says that for children to be taught patriotism, their mother needs to be a patriot herself. Wollstonecraftâs discourse community is womenâs rights movement, she is a participant of this group, although she says that she is not doing this for herself and that she is doing this for the independence of every women in France.
