The Department of English is one of the largest departments at the College. Typically, the department offers around 210 sections of writing and literature classes in the Fall semester and around 180 sections in the Spring. A small number of classes are offered in the Summer sessions as well.

The Office of First Year Writing (FYW) supervises mainstream composition at City Tech. To read more about FYW (including the co-requisite and multilingual courses) read here or see the FYW website. Rebecca Mazumdar and Carrie Hall are co-directors.

The Department offers one major (Professional and Technical Writing) and one minor (Gender and Sexuality Studies). You can see more about those degree programs here.

The Department runs the College Writing Center, which is located on the sixth floor of the General Building. The Writing Center provides tutoring to all students who want help with writing, not just those enrolled in English courses.
