  2. Exhibit a working knowledge of the proper use of communication tools, techniques, and resources.
  3. Design creative solutions to design challenges relating to communication systems.
  4. Discuss, plan, and use instructional techniques associated with methods of problem solving, decision-making, and experimentation in the communications technology classroom.
  5. Integrate other academic disciplines with the study of communication technology.
  6. Describe the implementation of communication technology systems into business, industrial, and educational settings.
  7. Describe the interrelationship between communication technology systems and other technological areas such as transportation, manufacturing, construction and bio-related technologies.
  8. Identify various career opportunities that are associated with communication technology.
  9. Develop activities for use with students in communication technology courses at either the elementary, middle, or secondary level.

REQUIREMENTS FOR COURSE

1.  Attendance

  • Students are allowed no more than two (2) absences. Absences in excess of this will result in the lowering of the final grade (one grade per absence).
  • Two late days represent one absence.
  • Only pre-discussed late attendances will be allowed, but they cannot exceed 20 minutes.
  • Only documented emergencies will be excused.

Because that would put you below the grade of C. If you are tardy for class by 20 minutes it will be recorded on the attendance role. Two tardy incidents will equal one absence.  The attendance rules, including tardiness, will be rigorously enforced.

2. Article, Hands-on activity, and hands-on activity Reviews

Each student will be required to write a total of three reviews:

  • one on informative article related to communications systems (Due TBD)
  • one on an in-depth informative web site related to communication systems (Due TBD)
  • review a hands-on activity for middle school or higher school technology classrooms related to communication systems (Due TBD)

Non-education majors may elect to do a first article review in lieu of a hands-on activity review. Please see the assignment sheet attached to the syllabus for further details.

3. Lab Activities

Students will engage in a variety of individual, small and large group activities through the course of the semester.  Each activity has different requirements that will be explained in more detail at the time it is conducted.  Topics will include video production, photography, desktop publishing, Internet web page and internet searching, collaborative work using Wiki; use of sound and video; technical drawing; and screen printing (additional activities may be added).

4. Blackboard Assignments

All students are expected to have access to the CUNY Citytech blackboard system. Students will need to login into our Blackboard and communicate with the instructor and classmates. Once completion of each lab project, students need to post the outcomes of the project into the blackboard. The instructor will post the specific posting guideline each lab session. For discussion sessions, students will be asked to post a reflection note for the class and at least a comment for others’ reflections.
