Desert tarantulas are the largest in the world. They are not dangerous to humans although movies portray them that way. They live in underground burrows and at night they wait for their prey such as insects and small bugs. For mating purposes they leave the burrows in search of females. Males die after mating and live up to 10 to 15 years. Females live from 25 years or more, after mating they lay their eggs.
