Obama’s A Promised Land Summary

This was about how he showed up in the white house and who he was as a person. He spoke on how he walked down the halls of the colonnade and what it meant to him. He said ” I walked differently, though, on the colonnade, conscious of the history that had been made there and those who had preceded me.” that stood out a lot to me because that sentence alone has a lot of history.  Obama greeted his groundskeepers workers who where working on the Rose Garden  with respect and cared to ask them about what was going on if he wasn’t running late.  In the text it stated ” They were men of few words; even with one another they made their points with a gesture or a nod, each of them focused on his individual task but all of them moving with synchronized grace.”He took time to notice how they where Individual mean but all in sink. Ed Thomas  was a black man who worked at the White House for 40 years.  when he asked him when will he retire he said I like to work. Getting a little hard on the joints. But I reckon I might stay long as you’re here. Make sure the garden looks good.”  This moment for him must of been important because of the long history of that place. Handiwork’s (men and women)   reminded him of a painting he had in his office. When he seen handiworks , painting, the groundskeepers in the garden working he felt as if he had to work as hard as they was working and take care of his job like they did there’s. Moment’s  of him seeing the dogs have fun and go on walks  or the girls  surprising him  in the  morning or even football tossing  seem to had helped him.  He said “They reminded me of time passing, sometimes filling me with longing a desire to turn back the clock and begin again” They seem to help him with the bigger picture and get threw thing .
