RLW, Diante Carr and Juan Tavarez

Diante Carr; How to read like a writer is an essay written by Mike Bunn providing various amounts of information and techniques throughout the reading about how to read like a writer. Through the text Mike gave some insightful points but the one that stood out to me the most is what questions you should ask yourself before you start reading. I think this important step because in reading like a writer because some questions can give you a better understanding into the insight of writer and the message they are conveying through their text like “in what Genre is this written”, this is a great question to ask yourself because it can change you approach in the way you read and understand the information an example of this is when Mike said this” I think a lot of the way I read, of course, depends on the type of text that I’m reading’ ‘ . To conclude this summary I think this was one of the many techniques that resonated with me in this text because I feel it is important to ask questions before to help your approach to help read like a writer.

Juan Tavarez; My idea from the article How to read like a Writer by Mike Bunn is he is showing us to understand the writer or more specifically the techniques that the writer used to write his/her essay, article, novel, anecdote, etc. Through all the articles the author is teaching us how to read from the point of view of the writer and how to identify the different techniques he/she used to decide whether or not you want to use those techniques in your writing. One example that he gave us is, if someone starts his/her article with a quote of somebody, in this case, he mentioned Obama, would you like to start your writing with a quote of somebody or would you like to avoid that, the thing is that RLW is to identify techniques and decide whether you want to avoid then or to use it in your writing depending on the type of audience that you want to attract. Something interesting that I found in the articles is that we are learning how to improve our writing through reading. When I first read the title of the article I thought it was going to be about being a better reader, but it teaches you how to be a better reader to become a better writer.
