Yousuf Karsh and Nadav Kander

Yousuf Karsh is a Armenian-Canadian photographer who had major in taking black and white photographs. Karsh used  lighting to model his subjects’ faces, and obtaining an idealized presentation that helped promote their public image. When we look at his work he captured photos of writers, actors, artists, musicians, scientists, and celebrities. The reason of taking famous people’s picture is he believed in that it’s the minority who make the world go around, not the majority. I love how he used the light on people’s faces and the angle he took the photographs. Also, I believe black and white photographs make the picture more strong, attractive to the viewer’s eye.

Nadav Kander was born in Israel, who started photography with working in a darkroom printing aerial photographs. He is best known for his Yangtze which is also called “The Long River Series”. His photographs are based on architectural structures where humans are shown as small in their environment. Figures are become smaller  by landscapes of half completed bridges and by Western-style apartment blocks.

Kandar is also a very sought after portrait photographer. There is a huge section of his web site of celebrity portraits. I was hoping you would compare the portrait styles of the two photographers.
