Donald Murray has a very strong point of view in this paper. His point of view is that all writing is autobiographical. What makes writing autobiographical is your thinking style and your voice in the writing stated by Brock Dethier. We all have our own way of looking at the world and we all use language in unique ways to communicate what we see. All writing can be considered an autobiography in their own different ways. When we write we speak about all the things we learned in our past as kids till adults. We speak on memories and experiences that we have been through. Everyone has had different experiences in life and has unique views on life, therefore making everyone’s writing their own autobiography. Before reading this paper I never thought that all writing is an autobiography, but now I feel completely swayed. My eyes really opened to the idea that we all have different views on the world and we all write differently based on our past experiences. I now know that we all have our own thinking style and that is what makes our writing autobiographical. One point that can challenge the author’s thinking is the topic of the genre. In my opinion, it would be hard to convince someone that a genre like Science fiction is about one’s personal views on life or experiences. I find myself incorporating autobiographical aspects into my writing all the time. I just graduated highschool meaning I had to write a lot of papers about myself and my experiences in high school to new colleges. I love writing stories and in a lot of those stores, I bring aspects of my life into them.
Isaiah, I love how the piece influenced the way you think or inspired you to look at your writing in a particular way. That is the goal of our readings this semester. I really love how you bring up some of the genres that you think might be challenging to argue are autobiographical and I would love for you to discuss them further during our next class discussion!
