Alumni News – Carlos Piedrahita, New Job at Sciame

Carlos Piedrahita, CMCE class of spring 2020, started a new job as an APM at Sciame Construction. He is working at 335 Madison Avenue on a major renovation project and tenant improvements and is also enrolled in his third semester in the MS in Real Estate Development program at NYU. His career in construction started in 2017 thanks to CMCE Prof. Villatoro who referred him to a GC in Manhattan where he worked as an APM for almost two years. After that, he moved to a bigger company as an APM working on high-end commercial projects ranging from $1M – $20M before joining Sciame in 2021.

Naveed Khan, graduate of the Construction Management associate degree program and current enrollee in the BTech in Construction Engineering Technology program, has been featured in Yahoo News for his work as a New York City realtor. CIAP Summer Internship & Davis/Grosso Scholarship Program

CIAP Summer Internship & Davis/Grosso Scholarship Program. This program provides money and employment opportunities in the construction industry for students completing their sophomore or junior year in a Baccalaureate Construction Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Management or Civil Engineering program. The Professional Development Center (PDC) – Career Services has partnered with – Handshake – a modern platform connecting City Tech students to employers recruiting college talent. PDC launched this new platform to City Tech students and alumni this past August. City Tech students can search and apply for internships, fellowships, part-time and full-positions. Students may also use Handshake to:

Brooklyn Navy Yard will be hosting an Info Session this Thursday at 2PM on the Real Estate + Governors Island Real Estate Fellowship, which was posted to Handshake for students to RSVP. 

“Brooklyn Navy Yard + Governors Island Real Estate Fellowship Program: The Real Estate Fellowship Program will match current CUNY undergraduates with a deep, one-year work fellowship with the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation or the Trust for Governors Island.Through the one year experience, students will gain direct real estate work experience and personal work products, develop on-the-job professional and technical skills, and build a network of real estate professionals. Matthew Russelli, CMCE class of 2018, is currently a Project Manager for a GC that has contracts with the City of New York handling public school renovation projects. His most recent project repurposes an old classroom used for storage as a new computer lab.

Danielle Ali, CMCE class of 2018, is currently working at Sciame Construction LLC on Wall Street as an Assistant Project Manager. She is currently working on the construction of The Studio Museum in Harlem, designed by Adjaye Associates. Sciame specializes in building unique structures and cultural institutions. She is also enrolled at Brooklyn College, in the Graduate Business Program earning a masters degree. Danielle has gained a multitude of skills in project management which she utilizes every day.

CMCE Alumni News – Nicolas Rios, LEED Green Associate, Project Commissioning Engineer

Nicolas Rios, CMCE class of 2019, recently started a new position as a Project Commissioning Engineer with WB Engineers+Consultants. He is currently working on the retro-commissioning of various mechanical equipment within a Novavax Vaccine Lab in MD and the commissioning a UPS replacement in a CVS/Aetna Data Center in CT.

CMCE Alumni News – Sandra Torres, Assistant Superintendent

Sandra M. Torres, CMCE class of 2018. As of March 2019, she was employed as an Assistant Superintendent for Sciame Construction, LLC and is currently assigned to The Frick Collection, an art museum and art history research center. The site consists of four interconnected buildings of which two are landmarks. The existing spaces will be renovated to varying extents. The Frick Art & Research Library, Music Room and Reception buildings will be expanded to create new spaces and a brand new underground theater/auditorium will be constructed. The total project is $170M and 201,000SF.

Juan-Pablo Rengifo, CMCE class of 2016, is currently an Estimator for Contravest, a high end multifamily developer/builder with projects in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina. Prior to Contravest, he worked in NYC for a mixed use multifamily developer as an Associate Construction Manager and Estimator.

Slava Miliuk, CMCE class of 2020, started his own company in 2016. Major Building Safety Consulting, Inc. provides Site Safety Services required by the Department of Buildings (Licensed SSM/SSC, CSM, CSFSM) on major buildings throughout the city. He is currently working as a Licensed Site Safety Manager on a 46 story building at 540 Fulton St, Brooklyn NY.
