Alumni News – Khiran Samsundar, Promotion at Jacobs Engineering Group

Khiran Samsundar, CMCE Construction Engineering Technology BTech class of 2018, received a promotion to Assistant Project Manager with Jacobs Engineering Group, and is currently working on Bellevue Men’s Shelter Rehabilitation. The project includes a complete roof replacement and electrical work including panel and feeder replacements, a 750KW emergency generator on the roof bulkhead with modification to existing bulkhead, and associated structural upgrades. Khiran previously worked on LaGuardia Airport – Central Terminal B Redevelopment, a design-build project consisting of 8 miles of roadway, 20 bridges, 3 million square feet of paving asphalt and concrete, estimated total labor hours of 11 million, over 40 thousand tons of steel, and 9 miles of baggage handling system. The project cost was approximately $4.83B. At City Tech, Khiran was President of the AGC Club, Co-Chaired the ACE Mentor Dinner events, and received membership in Sigma Lambda Chi, the International Construction Honor Society.

Career Development – DOB Scholars

NYC DOB Scholars | The program aims to expose students to the wide range of career opportunities within the DOB, while, at the same time, demonstrating the necessity of our multifaceted work for public safety.

The program consists of 10 seminars over the course of the semester. Each week, DOB architects, engineers, sustainability experts, construction inspectors, and Borough Commissioners present on the work of their individual units/departments. In addition to the seminar series, students will have access to networking opportunities and professional development workshops such as resume writing, and receive a Certificate of Completion from the Agency for their resumes.

Alumni News – Aalaa Mohammed, New Job at Suffolk

Aalaa Mohammed, CMCE BTech expected class of spring 2022, received a new job offer as a Project Engineer at Suffolk Construction. She will be joining the Suffolk Career Start 2022 cohort in their New York City offices. Aalaa is currently conducting research with Prof. Anne Marie Sowder through the group project, “Investigating Project Success Factors in Post-Disaster Rebuilding Efforts in NYC,” part of City Tech’s CRSP program, and was previously awarded Best STEM poster at the 33rd Semi-Annual Dr. Janet Liou-Mark Honors and Undergraduate Research Scholars Poster Presentation (2020) for her solo work “Benefits of Pre-Construction Analysis: CET Senior Capstone Expands Understanding of an Urban Refuge at GallopNYC Sunrise Stables.”

Alumni News – Carlos Piedrahita, New Job at Sciame

Carlos Piedrahita, CMCE class of spring 2020, started a new job as an APM at Sciame Construction. He is working at 335 Madison Avenue on a major renovation project and tenant improvements and is also enrolled in his third semester in the MS in Real Estate Development program at NYU. His career in construction started in 2017 thanks to CMCE Prof. Villatoro who referred him to a GC in Manhattan where he worked as an APM for almost two years. After that, he moved to a bigger company as an APM working on high-end commercial projects ranging from $1M – $20M before joining Sciame in 2021.
